Starving in the morning

I wake up feeling starved...Anyone else feel this way? I eat a good fiber filled breakfast and I'm fine after but until I can eat it feels as if I have not eaten in days. I don't eat after 7pm but I was under the impression this was a good thing.
I also take my vitamins at night because they make me hungry. I'm sure that's over and through my system by the time I wake up 8 hours later. Any suggestions of how I can avoid the morning starvation mode? Thanks in advance for any help....:-) Posted on 01/03/09, 03:01 pm |

maybe try the cut off being 8?
it depends on how long you are waiting between meals. cut off at 7 is ok, but when are you eating?

I wouldn't know what to tell you about changing anything the night before but I would suggest that you keep fruit available first thing in the morning (a source of natural sugar). When I was initially restricting my calories and sugar, I would feel terrible. An apple or cup of grapes would usually help immediatly to stabilize blood sugar and I would feel better. And, just as my doctor promised, I eventually got over feeling that way. Your body should adjust.

Eat something with a lot of protein in the morning, like peanut butter, an egg, some nuts, etc. I have tried to eat light in the morning too and am always hungry by ten or 11.. the only thing that works for me is protein..sometimes when I'm really rushed and I don't have time for breakfast I'll even grab some string cheese and rush out to work..I have found that protein really helps for me, I hope it works for you! :)

Hey hppywme,
I don't usually post on this group, I'm actually a member of the Neurofibromatosis support group, because I have NF1, but igloogirl is on my friend list, so I saw in my listing that she had replied to this discussion. I was hoping I could offer support, because my wife was in the same situation, and I think a lot of other people are. On January 1st, 09, as I'm sure many other people did, my wife started a new diet, but she did a lot of research this time, because the main reason she's fallen off the dieting wagon so many times is because most diets require her to starve herself. The new diet she started actually has you eat 4 times a day, and it uses a technique called calorie shifting. On their website, they talk about how low calorie diets only work until your metabolism slows down and then you stop losing weight, so you're pretty much starving yourself for nothing. They say you can lose 9 pounds in 11 days, but based on our research; it's probably a little less than that. After she signed up for the service, she went online, and used their online diet generator to create her 11 day meal plan. She was actually able to choose from a lot of different foods and then it created a diet meal plan with 4 meals a day for 11 days. According to meal plan that was generated, there are no portion limits; you just stop before you get full. I think I've heard of a few other diets saying the same thing. Like Jenny Craig and a few others. Then at the end of the 11 days, you can eat anything you want for 3 days, but you still have to stop short of being full so you don't gain everything back. Then you go back on another 11 day cycle until you've lost the weight you want. I'm waiting to see how she does and if it works, I might try to lose about 10 pounds. She's been doing it for a few days and the meals look pretty decent. She's eating normal food like tuna, chicken, fruit and shrimp. It's not pizza and french fries, but it's also not cabbage soup and rice. The diet is called fat loss 4 idiots, or the idiot proof diet. They say it's called that because they do everything for you and you don't have to count calories or read labels, which is a huge plus. My wife gets so frustrated having to write down everything she eats on most diets. I'll see if they let me post the site we found it on. http://www.bestdietingsecret.com/f... Sorry for such a long post, but my wife has tried a lot of different sites, and she's a member on a lot of dieting support sites, and this is the only diet I've ever seen her get excited about because she still gets to eat. I should also mention that you don't have to order any special meals or anything, it's just food you can get from the grocery store. Hope this helps. Maybe this can help you avoid starvation. :) James

you know i sometimes get that way especially if I worked out the day before, so how I cure my starvation mode is to have a half a cup of milk first thing in the morning. This allows me to have a little something before I actually have breakfast and my system is occupied while I am occupied getting ready for work. After I have it I know I'll be fine for another 30-40 minutes...I'm basically buying some time.

On school days I don't eat breakfast until I've dropped my son off at school. I wake up hungry and make myself drink that first 8 oz. glass of water to start my day and take any of my morning based medications. The water helps my body have a sense of fullness and keeps me from overindulging at breakfast. Even on Nutrisystem I can really mess up my portions on the non packaged stuff. If I have the late nite munchies sometimes I'll give myself a little flexibility and drink a protein drink a couple hours before bedtime--not meal replacement but kind bodybuilders use.

I find that if I eat 10-12 macadamia nuts right before bed, it stabilizes my blood sugar so I sleep all night and don't wake up tired or weak or starved and can usually wait 30 min to an hour before I have to eat after getting up in the morning. Sometimes taking vitamins at noon with a light meal or mid afternoon with a light snack is better for your system's absorption also. blessings :-)
