Tips for Eating Healthy When Eating out
As a beverage choice, ask for water or order fat-free or low-fat milk,
unsweetened tea, or other drinks without added sugars.
Ask for whole-wheat bread for sandwiches.
In a restaurant, start your meal with a salad packed with veggies, to
help control hunger and feel satisfied sooner.
Ask for salad dressing to be served on the side. Then use only as
much as you want.
Choose main dishes that include vegetables, such as stir fries,
kebobs, or pasta with a tomato sauce.
Order steamed, grilled, or broiled dishes instead of those that are
fried or sauted.
Choose a small" or "medium" portion. This includes main dishes,
side dishes, and beverages.
Order an item from the menu instead heading for the "all-you-can-
eat" buffet.
If main portions at a restaurant are larger than you want, try one of these strategies to keep from overeating:
>Order an appetizer-sized portion or a side dish instead of an entre.
>Share a main dish with a friend.
>If you can chill the extra food right away, take leftovers home in
a "doggy bag."
>When your food is delivered, set aside or pack half of it to go
immediately.
>Resign from the "clean your plate club" - when you've eaten enough,
leave the rest.
To keep your meal moderate in calories, fat, and sugars:
>Ask for salad dressing to be served "on the side" so you can add only
as much as you want.
>Order foods that do not have creamy sauces or gravies
>Add little or no butter to your food.
>Choose fruits for dessert most often.
On long commutes or shopping trips, pack some fresh fruit, cut-up vegetables, low-fat string cheese sticks, or a handful of unsalted nuts to help you avoid stopping for sweet or fatty snacks.

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...
Hope everyone has a nice week.Eat Healthy.
This time I am GOING TO KEEP IT OFF!! I feel so much better having lost the weight, in an emotional sense, more confident I think.

Louis ~ Have safe travels. I'm sure you'll find your ways to be healthy while traveling.
Caroline ~ Those scales fluctuate for lots of different reasons. Glad you're back down now! That is so wonderful.
aimhigh ~ Wohoo on your 15 pounds lost! It looks like you & I are head toward the same weight goal. I'm looking forward to following you into the 190's. Someday we'll be weighing in the same. So best wishes as you walk the path before me. :)
Anna ~ Yay!!! */* Celebration is in order even now! Just keep gathering those around you who know all about maintenance. Stay focused -- you're soooooo close to your star goal.
Lorrie ~ I think I need to follow your example. I'm glad that at least you maintained & did not go up.
I love that article. Most of those tips are wonderful to follow in all type situations. I understand why they suggest not to order the buffet. But last week when we did eat at a restaurant it worked great for me to eat at such a buffet. I first filled up on vegetables. In fact, I had so much good fiber that I had NO room for the yummy pie that the restaurant had to offer. And I'm learning to be more than OK with that.
That particular restaurant called it an "All-You-Care-To-Eat" buffet. Subtle message is to eat healthy as you wish.
Have a great remainder of the week!
My weight is up and it is up a lot. A little over a week ago I weighed 152 a loss of about 3 lbs . This past week all in the name of saving gas money I totally went home bound and stayed home and that meant no gym visits . I did not binge and a few times fast food was brought into our home , (not by me) Once my hubby brought home little ceaser pizza , and I ate several slices of that , and twice my daughter has bought me sonic nerd slushies which has lord knows how much sugar and calories.
My weight being up is not a shock , I knew it would be. The thing is and Iam really not trying to be a brat but I find weightloss becoming easy because I have experimented so much with changing up the food that I eat , I have it down to a science. This past week I choose to save money over the priority of my weight/gym. Yesterday I told my husband about the weight gain as part of a casual conversation. And he said ohhh that's why your not happy today, I said nope that is not why ,if a doctor or anyone told me that my huge gain this week was perpetual and was never going to end , that I would just have to deal with it, yeah this news would freak me out but I have learned how to do this and it is fairly simple .
The issue iam having now is that I really don't think it is all that healthy to be so yo-yo with my weight because literally it changes 1-10 lb in a given week , that's how close of a science I have this .I can guarantee that I can get back down to 152lb . That being said , I have to say that I am happy with my weight even up 7 lbs,
My goal this week is going to be to "maintain my weight" . Because I seem to have the most trouble with this and I am not sure but this seems a good goal for me. Now Iam not going to eat fast food or slushies , nope I want to eat healthy and feel well . I may end of loosing a few lbs , but my goal for this week will be to maintain my weight and I will use the knowledge I have to maintain my weight.
My thoughts on this is that the "food industry " continues to change the chemical composion of our foods no matter what you eat , what food group . Chicken and eggs seem to make my breats engorged looking and feeling. funny I know , but when you take things out of your diet and then add them back in slowly you will be able to discern what these foods do to you if you are in tuned to your body. I happen to be. Sooo Chicken and eggs are out for me. I tell you another thing that's gross. The oatmeal that I was buying in a round cardboard container was sold for about 1.64 and has steadily creeped up in price like everything else , but the gross thing is I have noticed more slimmy stuff in this product and it is very unappetizing so I stopped buying this because it just looked nasty like clear glue was added to my food (more gluten I dunno) As well as recently and when I say recently iam talking the last three months. Canned Great Northern Beans from Kroger , used to be wonderful addition to a meal for me.... But........ just like that oatmeal there seems to be a slimmy , glue , snoty looking substance in it now almost the consistency of Fatty /jelly like and I mean that is just gross, it still tastes good but I can not get past the texture. I have actually thought about calling the 1800 number on the back of the can. but I really don't think I would get some any real truthful answers. The point Iam making through my experience is that we all have to pay attention to the foods that we are eating how they are changing in compostion as well as the changes you notice in your bodies.
msblann ~ Do you realize that you CAN do cardio with just your upper body? Move those arms around & your good leg (you have just 1 leg broken?) On youtube I found some seated routines. I was mostly looking into strength training, but saw some seated cardio. If they do move the leg, you can adapt it to yourself. If interested, I can find you some links that may inspire you even though you may not be able to follow through exactly.
Cheers to all!
I can hardly believe it's Thursday already. Hope the week's been good for everyone so far.
