Whether you are celebrating with family today for Mother's Day, getting together for a Sunday meal or, just needing some refreshers on the ole subject of pushing oneself away from the table, let's take a look at a few helpful (hopefully) pointers.
Tip No. 1: Drink plenty of water or other calorie-free beverages.
Tip No. 2: Be choosy about nighttime snacks. Mindless eating occurs most frequently after dinner, when you finally sit down and relax.
Tip No. 3: Enjoy your favorite foods. Instead of cutting out your favorite foods altogether, be a slim shopper. Buy one fresh bakery cookie instead of a box, or a small portion of candy from the bulk bins instead of a whole bag. You can still enjoy your favorite foods -- the key is moderation.
Tip No. 4: Eat several mini-meals during the day.
Tip No. 5: Eat protein at every meal.
Tip No. 6: Spice it up. Add spices or chilies to your food for a flavor boost that can help you feel satisfied.
Tip No. 7: Stock your kitchen with healthy, convenient foods.
Tip No. 8: Order children's portions at restaurants.
Tip No. 9: Swap a cup of pasta for a cup of vegetables. - (This is one I use a lot - instead of pasta - I've ordered shrimp over asparagus).
Tip No. 10: Always eat breakfast.
Tip No. 11: Include fiber in your diet. Fiber aids digestion, prevents constipation, and lowers cholesterol -- and can help with weight loss.
Tip No. 12: Clean the cupboards of fattening foods.
Tip No. 13: Lose weight slowly. If you're losing weight but not as fast as you'd like, don't get discouraged. Dropping pounds takes time, just like gaining them did. Experts suggest setting a realistic weight loss goal of about one to two pounds a week.
Tip No. 14: Weigh yourself once a week. People who weigh themselves regularly tend to have more weight loss success.
Tip No. 15: Get enough sleep. When you're sleep deprived, your body overproduces the appetite-stimulating hormone ghrelin but under-produces the hormone leptin, which tells you when you're full.
Tip No. 16: Understand portion sizes. We're so used to super-sizing when we eat out that it's easy to carry that mind-set home. To right-size your diet, use a kitchen scale and measuring cups to measure your meals for a week or two.
Tip No. 17: Eat more fruits and vegetables. The best "diet" is one where you get to eat more food, not less.
Tip No. 18: Limit alcohol to weekends. Alcohol contains empty calories: a five-ounce glass of wine has 125, a bottle of beer about 153. Because our bodies don't use those calories well, they usually get converted directly into fat.
Tip No. 19: Chew sugarless gum. The next time you want to grab a fattening snack, reach for some sugar-free gum instead.
Tip No. 20: Keep a food diary. A simple pen and paper can dramatically boost your weight loss
Tip No. 21: Celebrate success (but not with food). You lost five pounds this month and walked every other day? Time to celebrate! Rewarding weight loss success really can encourage more success, so revel in your achievements. Buy a CD, take in a movie, and set a prize for the next milestone. Just don't celebrate with a sundae or deep dish pizza.
Tip No. 22: Get help from family and friends.Getting support can help you reach your weight loss goals. (Lean on your DS people!)

I have to admit, I haven't weighed in until today because I was certain that I'd been out of control last week. Luckily, I caught and threw myself back on the wagon and maintained. This week I will be more committed to my results, my healthy lifestyle.

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...
8lbs so far.
Last Week: 294
THIS WEEK: 289
Last week I had gained that 1 pound, but was sure it was muscle - and it looks like I may have been right lol.
It's been another rough week of exercising. I don't know if it's because I switched over to my 2 mile tape or what but I skipped Wednesday, and I am skipping today (although I might go for it tomorrow on what I normally plan as a rest day) but my theory is since I am doing this on my own is all I have to listen to is my own body. And if my body doesn't want to move I don't want to make it lol.
I have sort of a milestone coming up, 280 was the weight I graduated college (back in '05) and on June 29th my best girlfriends and I are getting together for a little reunion (we do every year) and also as a surprise mini bachelorette party for one of them. Originally I thought I would be hitting 280 then and could say I was back at college weight... but it looks like I might be passing my original hope and could be less by that time. lol. So I am pretty excited!
As for me, I am still on a plateau, and am so very frustrated. It's been 2 weeks now, an I have lost nothing. I know that it happens, but it is frustrating!!! Thanks for letting me vent! Continued best wishes as we move forward!!!
