I have been away from this site for a long while after the loss of my DH to Cancer I hit a wall of depression and left a lot of the things that made me feel good " this being one of them". I did however not leave food, and I gained a ton of weight my highest being almost 300pds. I did drop down to 274 and with in the past 2 and 1/2 months have taken off 30 more pounds just with dieting. No pop, no junk food and no eating after 6pm. I am now down to 244 and have stopped lossing which I knew I would. I have a bad back and am limited to what excersis I can do.
I ask what are some things you all do to jump start your diets again to get you lossing weight again. I have gone 2 weeks with no loss and could really use some advise.
I do swim and ride a stationary bike from time to time when the old back lets me. Any advice would be helpful thanks

" Yoga works best for me. Afterall, the idea isn't strenuous exercise but the awareness of yourself, mind & body. It tends to help me be more contious of what I'm putting into my body as much as anything. It's matter of a state of mind & improving your way of thinking. Or at least that's what it does for me. Just an idea. :) "

" Michelle, I'm so sorry for your loss.
Welcome back and congratulations on all the pounds you lost.
When I hit a plateau I try to up my workout or change it a bit but you do have the back issue.
Can you change your eating pattern a bit? Perhaps less carbs such as breads, rices and pastas and more fruits, veggies and proteins.
Also exchange all your white stuff with brown stuff. Eat whole grain/wheat, brown rice etc and make sure your not eating white sugar but instead use a little honey or agave. Also cut out the full fat dairy and replace it with no fat. Finally, make sure you are not eating too little as that can put you into starvation mode and make your body hold onto the weight.
I'm sure others will add alot more better advice but sometimes you just have to wait out a plateau. "

" Michelle, just wanted to say I am sorry for your loss.

You are doing great for losing all that weight. I would say keep doing what you are doing and the plateau should stop.

Great to have you on this site and my best to you.......take care "

" It all linked to food. The amount you were eating to lose earlier was probably more than what you need to eat now to still lose. Have a look at your calorie intake and be honest, if you cheat in your diet the weight will stick around.

Try building more muscle. More muscle means higher burn rate per day. Also remember that walking 5 km and running 5 km burns almost the same amount of calories. So get out there and start walking.

The other thing to keep in mind is that it took you a long time to gain the weight, so don't have a goal of weight loss rate that is unrealistic. A loss of 0.5 - 1 lb per week is a good rate, this can also be masked by drinking a lot of water on the weigh in day. So stay focused and create a healthier lifestyle and the pounds will continue to drop! "

" I've also just returned to this site and am hoping to get some support to help me lose weight. First, I'm sorry for your loss. As far as being stuck at a plateau, the advice I've heard given is to change up what you're doing. Sometimes the body gets used to the same plan so try different meals, new vegetables, etc. and change your exercise routine. Good luck! "

" I also am sorry for your loss. I also have back issues My doctor told me that I should walk fast until I winded than slow down until I am breathing normal again then speed up again He said that burns more calories I can do it at home walking in place to music and I also take a break if I need to sit down I can. Congrats on what you have lost so far! "

" What is wrong with your back? Sorry if I missed an earlier post, I do not come on here often.

You sound like you have done a great job. I have had really bad back issues. I do gentle core strengthening and that has made a huge difference. Now I can walk again. You might see a physiotherapist and get some exercises. Of course, it might be something that is not fixable.

Rabbit food? That is what I call lots of veggies - plus high fiber and lean protein. Seems to help me with the weight loss regime. "
