hey everyone.

so i went to the dostors recently, and i seen how much weight i gained over the summer.. ( i always seem to gain it in the summer, because i have nothing to do.) but i checked out what my ideal body weight should be.. and i need to lose 69 pounds to get there.

I feel like it will take FOREVER to lose all that weight. and i dont want it to take that long.

how can i lose 69 pounds in a small amount of time? when i say "small amount of time" i dont mean like a month.. but maybe 3-4 months.

basically, i just need some suggestions to i can loose all this dreadful weight. i noticed ever since i gained this weight in the past 2 years, my self esteem and confidence went WAYYYYY down.. and i'm constanly worrying if my boyfriend will leave me for someone who i think is prettier than me. and i'm always putting myself down. i think losing this weight will help me out with all my problems.

please help, it will be greatly appreciated :)

" When you lose fast your skin does not have a chance to shrink and does not stay attached to the muscle. If you lose slow it should not happen if your eating right ( good fats (olive oil and nuts, and fruits and veggies with lots of colors) to keep good elasticity in your skin. This is a example of someone that lost weight fast from gastric surgery.

" I want to give you some encouragement. First, congratulations on getting focused on what you want. Change is not easy, but figuring out exactly what you want in advance can really help. So you are already well on your way in terms of knowing what you want.

While it is good to know your goal, focusing only on that one number may feel overwhelming. So maybe you can think about breaking up the 69 into more mangeable increments - like five or ten pounds at a time, and focus on the smaller numbers instead of the one big number. When you meet your smaller goals, you can give yourself a good non-food reward. Rewards help take the edge off and make achieving a goal more fun and more doable. I would expect that meeting smaller incremental goals will help boost your self esteem and confidence - you will see that you CAN do this.

Do you have a weight loss plan? How are you going to go about losing the weight? My main suggestion for you is to try to decrease your daily caloric intake by making healthier food choices, and to increase your daily activity by doing some kind of physical activity that you enjoy. Doing both things will give you more bang for your buck in the long run and enhance your overall health.

Best of luck to you. Change sometimes comes more slowly than any of us would wish, but losing weight in a healthy, sensible way is completely doable. "

" Babygurl,

I am with Beesley on this, you should not set yourself up with unrealistic expectations. We do research on weight loss and publish on our site. While it is possible to lose weight very quickly, (on the order of magnitide of what you are talking about), it should ONLY be done in rare occasions and under the supervision of a your doctor.

Basically, it requires a dramatic modification to both your diet and to activity (exercise), and you have to keep it up. For most people this is not realistic - they come down and (typically) shoot back up. It just takes a while for your body to adjust to what you want in a healthful manner to stay put at the new lower weight.

Nor is it healthy psychologically - I don't know about you, but most people get really down if (when?) they regain weight (and typically, yo-yo dieting regains all loss and then some). If you are already concerned about your self esteem and confidence, you probably should avoid this route. And, worry about you - not your boyfriend. If your relationship is for real, not only will he support your decision, he will help you achieve your goal (say, by joining a gym with you and/ or by supporting your dietary change).

Aim for slow weight loss, by gradually coming down. Eat a balanced diet (or subscribe to a diet plan like weightwatchers or nutrisystem). A small caloric deficit diet (eating a little less than you need), coupled with a small increase in activity works wonders (for more than just your weight).

Bottom line - while there are shortcuts to getting you where you (stated) you wanted to be, most of them are NOT worth it unless there is something else at stake (e.g. your doctor directs your diet and weight loss for medical reasons).

Best,

Jason Chen

" I can't agree with them more! I have been working on losing weight for two years. I was once three hundred lbs. I have been doing it slowly and I don't have that sick look that some get when they lose it so fast. Take it slow. It will be worth it. "
