What works for me is 4-5x a week for 30 minutes and then 3x a week I do a strength/weights program.
I use hand weights and resistance bands for my weight program. You can find tons of exercises and some have short videos on sparkpeople.com. I put together a list from that site. Hope this helps. One weight loss tip...drink 1/2 your weight in water ounces every day!

Get a pedometer and walk. Omron is the best one out there. You can bet a basic one for about $20 or an upgraded one with a computer program and USB attachment (to track you steps and exercise) for $30 to $35. I got mine from Amazon.com and have the one with the cd rom. I shoot for 10,000 steps a day.

One of the best exercises you can do for your lower body is a walking lunge. You can probably google it and find a video or at least a picture (much better than me trying to explain it in words). For the upper body a good one is a bent over row. If you don't have any dumbbells trying filling up empty milk jugs with water. I am a certified personal trainer and librarian also in the process of getting back to a better weight. Good luck. I also suggest walking and going outside when you can - this is a good thing for your mind and will help you stick to your workout on a regular basis - if just starting out try for 3X/wk for 30 minutes once you get the habit going up it to 5 - 6 times a week then try and increase the time, 45 minutes, 60 minutes - this will help the weight come off. .

Lunges are a great suggestion. If they are too difficult to start just do some bodyweight squats to work up to them. Just squat down until your butt touches your calves (or as close as you can get without straining yourself) and then come back up to a standing position. After you can do 100 of these I would go into the walking lunges as was already suggested.
For upper body training I would do some planks and push up holds at the top. If you can do push ups from your knees I would do those as well. Another good upper body exercise is using the edge of your couch. Do triceps dips from your couch. You can either do them with your feet on the floor (easier) or on a foot stool etc. You can also do some milk cartoon curls. Take a full milk cartoon and just do curls with it. You can use that same milk carton for overhead triceps extensions. Walking of course is good. Eventually though you should commit a little money to working out at a gym. I think a gym is a great investment. Do not go out and spend $1,000 on some piece of home equipment. I have done that in the past and it is such a waste of money. You can have a gym with everything you will ever need for $20 to $40 a month depending on where you live. It is an investment in your health and well worth it.
