I went to Jenny Craig and think I weighed around 170. Got down to about 140. (4 yrs ago) I'm 5'8 and 41, exercise about 20 hrs a week, eat healthy..no fatty foods, eat items that include everything the body needs-consisting of carbs, proteins, fats...the whole 9 yards...I even drink almost a gallon of water a day..no junk, EVER! .but I can't budge from 157...I tried eating whatever I wanted--meaning not measuring everything/tracking-but following healthy eating as I did after I finished Jenny Craig...then I tried 1200 calories for a few weeks, (went back to tracking/measuring) 1500, 1700...now I am totally baffled...been exercising at the gym 5-6 days a week since MARCH, dancing about 6 hours or more a week-tap/ballet for 5 years...no thyroid issue..I don't get it...it's just like trying to find a job...giving 5,000 percent effort with no results!! :(

" This really has me stumped too. If you are eating less calories than you are burning and still not losing weight, I would talk to one of the professionals either at this site or maybe your doctor. Good luck! "

" I burn 600 calories in exercise a day but sounds like you've tryed everything in the diet department. You should see an md but also I've heard the low glycemic diet works best for losing and warding off hunger. "

" I found a site that estimates how many calories we need based on age, weight, height, and activity level:

http://www.freedieting.com/tools/ca...

You can enter your specifics and look at what it says. If you are getting too few calories your body may be going into starvation mode and effectively hoarding fat.

I agree with sanka34, you may want to talk to your doctor and to a nutritionist specializing in weight loss and maintenance. "

" Could U be going through pre-menopause? My good friend is in her early 40's and struggles with so much and the weight drives her nuts. "

" Thanks for all the advice. I wish I was going through menopause, but that's not possible since is was almost 19 when I first had menstruation. The hormone tests are always normal. I just think it is one of those things that doctor's don't know, just like irritable sydrome/other illness they don't have answers for...oh well...at least I have hands/arms/legs...I injured my wrist, so I was thinking how grateful I am only to have a removable cast thing, and not a cast like that was on my foot/leg a few years back...I guess I will continue eating healthy/exercising, for that's all I can do....just like looking for a job...if I put 5,000 percent effort and don't get results, then at least I can say I tried hard than the average person.
