Hi,
First off I just want to say it feels good knowing I'm not the only one. I'm 23 going on 24. I have crohn's disease. I find it hard not to eat anything and everything I see. I feel like I just can't stop eating. I go to Mcdonalds and Burger King so often they know me by name. I just don't know how to stop. I am getting sicker and I do care, I just don't know how to stop. I have tried the gym but it seems every time I get up I get knocked back down. What should I do? How should I help myself not eat or drink soda all day? I feel like I just don't have the power to stop myself. I know it sounds stupid but being 23 with Crohn's and being almost 300 lbs isn't what I pictured myself being when I was younger. I just need help.

" Have you looked into OA? It sounds like you may have an eating disorder, and OA could help with that. Another option is individual therapy. We can give you a lot of tips about reducing calories, portion control, eating healthy, and exercise, but until you get a handle on the overeating, none of it is going to mean much. I think you need to look at what it is that is driving you to eat the way you are eating. . "

" I have a bit of an addictive personality. For me it is more things like eating and playing computer games and watching TV rather than booze or drugs.

But it still is a problem.

I eliminate things that I have trouble self moderating. For example, caffeine was effecting my heart, so I cut it out as completely as I could. That meant no more Mountain Dew!

Other things can be substituted. So with the soda, perhaps you can substitute flavored water or tea?

I agree with beesley, perhaps looking into OA would be helpful.

Gentle hugs and best wishes! "

" Try to not beat yourself up... I know for me that is easier said than done. Start with small, attainable goals if you can. Start with pop, perhaps. If possible limit yourself to diet pop and just a few a day. I always have water with me everywhere I go. I will throw a tea bag in there (there's a ton of different tea flavors) and usually have green teas during the day and chamomile at night.

Maybe try, at first, the burger joints once per week - as a treat. If I eat fast food I try to stick with Subway.

I know it is hard and I get overwhelmed if I expect perfection from myself. I also try NOT TO COMPARE MYSELF WITH OTHER WOMEN. I try to be gentle with myself and treat myself as I would a good friend. I try to accept where I am today, knowing that everything is a process and everything takes time.

I have a dear friend with Crohn's and she struggles, too. You absolutely are not alone. I have heard good things about OA and it takes courage to join any 12 step program. Once there, though, you will find others who share in the struggle (I was in Alanon for several years).

Hang in there and value the person you are today! "

" My middle nephew (age 22) has Crohn's & is also overweight.

Let me ask a nosy question: do you have decent insurance? If so, your Crohn's doctor could probably get you a referral to a nutritionist or a therapist to talk to about your eating issues. That may sound extreme, but you don't want this to rock on until you develop diabetes or some other weight-related disorder.

Please come back here often for help, support, and to let us know how you are doing. Feel free message me anytime. "
