So, My husband has been super healthy his whole life.. (53) 2 years ago he lost his appetite and about 20 pds in a month.. I forced him to go the dr.. and he had kidney failure... The specialist said it was brought on by advil!!! He had the flu a month earlier and had a taken advil... He had taken it exactly as the label said for 2 days.. That was all it took.... BTW.. he has no history of any kind... The dr. said " The worst time to take advil is when you are sick"
So I am sticking with tylenol..

" must've been something in the strength of the aspirin in advil. But I never heard this either. But at least the info comes from a dr. "

" I am so sorry to hear that Palyn. But I have heard many horror stories about Advil. Really sad too because My daughter amd her friends loved it for cramp time and I begged them not to use it...I was warned about Tylenol when I was using it instead of pain meds also. I don't know..seems like anything inexcess hurts us anymore? "

" So sorry this happened, Palyn, but you experienced this. And you are NOT telling people to stop taking ibuprophen (aka Advil, Motrin, etc.). It's not as if you read it somewhere....It is a real experience you are sharing. Many thanks. "

" Experience - when I had eye surgery years ago I was only given tylenol. It did nothing and a friend of mine said to take 4 at a time every 2 hours. I did that for 2 days. It took the edge off the pain and after 2 days I stopped with no ill effects. The idea is as in anything, moderation whether it be sugar, over-the-counter meds, etc. Overdoing anything is bound to have some effect. BUT tylenol is one of the better meds out there. "

" I have taken Nurofen (which is Ibuprofen in this country) but found it did nothing for me at all - might as well take a peppermint - the same with panadeine (tylenol).
Hope that your husband recovered palyn215. "

" speaking of tylenol - there was a show on TV tonite whereby a gymnist collapsed, etc. The bottom line was she was taking 10 tylenol a day for 2 days and went into liver failure from it. There spells out overdoing it. I guess I was just lucky the 2 days I took so many. "

" There is a very good chance that the gymnast - and maybe your husband? - was not eating properly at the time. She would have been watching weight etc and if he was sick - well I know there are times when I am sick that I do not want to eat either........ not the time to take some of these meds I guess. "
