This is the recommendation from the ADA about balancing your food intake. But I find the carbs to be a bit high for me. Since we are going more vegetarian in our household, we have increased the fruits and veggie area and decreased the carb area. Ive noticed a significant drop in BG readings since incoroporating the vegetarian lifestyle.

" Curtis, once you get the basics down, its not so hard. Ask your doc or call your local diabetes association and ask if they have classes or private instruction with a Nutritionist or Dietician or Diabetes Educator. They will help you to figure out a good eating plan for you.

There are several different ways to approach this. Some people count carbs and use a sliding scale. (my favorite way because I believe it gives you the most control) Other people use the older exchange method. Some just go by meal size. It all depends on what you can fit into your lifestyle, how much time you want to invest and what your doctor agrees is in your best interest.

Here is another site that helps to break down food requirements. It is a little more detailed and offers better understanding.
