What do WE want?

It seems that there has been quite a few problems on this board of late and while I missed the beginning and the middle I hope that I can see the end of them.
I would like to start this topic so that the T2ers - YOU - can post what you would like this group to be, to do, now and in the future. It is listed in large orange letters "Support Group". I have no desire to see my name up on a whole heap of posts - If I want to see that I have my own group to do it in. What I would like to see is for peace to return and for this to be the wonderful helpful group it was back when I first stumbled in here still coming to grips with having to finally go on meds for the diabetes. So many people helped me then - some I still have as friends, others have since left - I would hope that this group will return to once again supporting and helping others who stumble in here confused, upset, some in denial, others depressed. But it is up to us T2ers to do it - no-one else - US. So what do YOU want this group to be? Then it will be up to us to make it what we want it to be. Posted on 11/05/09, 07:11 am |

I totally agree with the above except for one thing. There are us oldtimers who have just as many health issues as the newbees perhaps more.
This group, as in any other support group, is to support emotionally. The medical part should be handled by a board certified doctor. We can give emotional support and opinions from our diabetic life experiences, but we cannot give advice on a medical level.

Good point Arline.
Like I can say Metformin for me and some other friends of mine is the pits - for my mother and millions of others it is great. But I should never tell anyone not to take it if it is working for them without the side effects. Even a board certified dr would not give medical advice on this or any other similar site. I have a friend who is one here who says that as she does not have the history, the test results, hasn't examined the person so she does not give anything apart from the same sort of information we can all give from our own conditions and treatments that we have had and whether they have worked or not. AND things that are readily available on the net - she will not give out medical advice on any personal level. And that is the way it should be. I have found my own answer. Ignore.................. works like a dream and I don't have to see myself being chased around the board - that was getting pretty boring - yes that is really good word for it. BORING!!!!!!!!!!

Sunnie we would love to get rid of it - well most of us at any rate.
But until this board can return to just being support and help for those WITH diabetes, and not a place where there are lectures and other unwanted posts put up you will find that the problems will remain. I have solved it for myself but others will still be bombarded I guess, I don't see what I don't see, so I don't know what I don't know. LOL

We all know what it would take to make this a really emotional supportive group but until that person decides to be emotional and supportive without giving past/cut advice, it will never happen. We don't care about her high carb recipes or her lack of receiving a doctorate of any kind. .

Surely we have all found through weeks, months, years of testing that high carbs = high levels?
Now please don't anyone go off and cut out all carbs or even never have a carbfest. We all need some carbs in our diets - it is the sort of carbs that are important too - white is out as Arline said in another comment she made. But to live on a high carb diet day in and day out is NOT conducive to good sugar levels. Yep been there, done that - bought the T-shirt LOL
