Let me start this by saying I am diabetic. Many of my family members are Diabetic - diagnosed back to my great-grandfather but family history seems to indicate it was further back than that. There is a genetic factor in T2 and I had the luck to win the lottery in my generation as my mum did in hers. For all my life there has been diabetics around me.
This group was my original DS group so therefore I have a special connection to it - always will. But while I have not had time to read all the posts on here - from what I have read I have to agree with WV. I see nothing on here apart from personality differences and disagreements and even if there were one here no CL is going to get involved with them. As I have mentioned in one of the other posts I have stayed away from this group for other reasons but saw a discussion about it on another group (like Bobbi and WV) and thought I would venture back here to see what if anything had changed. Seems that not much has, Chip and Arline are still here but I do not recognise any of the other names. To be honest even though I will remain a member I do not think I will bother coming back here - at least not for a while as there is very little in the way of actual discussion about diabetes, treatments and what is good and not good to do for each of us. And we all are different. Each of us have our reasons for being here and we all need to respect that. I have spent years trying to find a med that will keep my levels down AND that my body will actually tolerate and some of the side effects you do not ever want to have - trust me. And I have to live with some of them for the rest of my life now. One last thing I would like to mention. Please remember that IF you have a problem with a person or persons on this or any other board in DS or personally it might help to use the ignore button. Good luck with your sugar levels everyone and hopefully those potential problems that can come as a result of T2 will NOT knock on your doors. Posted on 11/04/09, 06:11 am |

Hathani, thx for your insightful, open-minded impressions here. It seems the problem is mainly one of lack of support. Tons of preaching and one person knowing "everything", but no real back and forth support. If you disagree with the sermon of the day, then you are attacked. I've seen two newbies in the last week attacked here.
As you said: "as there is very little in the way of actual discussion about diabetes, treatments and what is good and not good to do for each of us. And we all are different. Each of us have our reasons for being here and we all need to respect that." Also in any other group, if one person "flooded" the board with posts (no posts by anyone else), people would be screaming for their heads. But here it's taken as a matter of course. I personally have had type 2 diabetes for about 15 yrs. or so. My A1c was 6.0 a month ago. My husband, mother and sister are all insulin dependent. So I guess that would qualify me as to experience and think I'll join. Maybe try to help you guys get some real discussions and support going? Dunno. At least I actually HAVE the disorder and therefore experience. Finally, I hope everyone here realizes that this is the public forum for diabetes type 2....no one owns the board, no one has the right to "think" they own the board. Nor do they have the right to attempt to get DS to change all their rules to suit anyone's power agendas. So Hi, I'm a newbie here....nice to meet ya'll!

Copy of reply to feedback post....
Guys Please, This group is so unlike any others I visit... Day to day troubles need supporting, we all need a friendly group to wander into, have a giggle and be amoungst friends. I fear my outbursts in previous posts have brewed up a storm here and thats not what I'm about. not at all.... Perhaps If Socks would consider starting a group for pre diabetics her followers can flit between both and let us repair what can be salvaged for this much needed group.... Just a suggestion... This can be a happy place where we can support, comfort and care for without everything googled being chucked down our throats without any thought... CL or no CL... use the ignore..I have and I can get on without the frustration... I am diabetic, I have a lot to share through experience and living the life.... How sad it is I had to turn to GBS to try to control a disease that was and possibly is killing me everyday.. That said, I have no regrets. Socks, Please do the decent thing and take your debates to a new group of your own for those that will appriciate your input. You will have a lot of followers I'm sure, and you would be welcome to promote YOUR group anytime... You will become your own CL and can ban and delete post to your hearts content.... Please Socks, at least think about it... enough said... BUZZ xx

Now Buzz let me start by saying this.
I have not had the time - and doubt if I will get the time to do it either - to read all the posts on here that appear to be causing controversy. But I know there are problems. Right Buzz I think you had a great suggestion there. Perhaps starting up a diabetic group where there can be debates about treatments and various other things tossed around. How about thinking about that suggestion - have a group under this one and have it just for discussions and debates. Leaving this main board to do what it was doing when I first stumbled here needing nothing but a listening ear and someone to hold my hand. Even though I knew it was inevitable that I would be diagnosed it was still a shock and I needed got through that. The last thing I needed was to have a whole lot of ideas and alternatives - I just wanted someone who had been there and done that to help guide me through those stages of diagnosis, denial, acceptance and then actually starting to live again. THAT is what I think this board should be doing. Support as Bobbi says should be the key on this board - BTW well done on you A1c would love to have mine that low......... and no-one should ever be made to feel like they are being attacked. So how about it? How about taking up BUZZ's suggestion? I think it would be great and I myself love to debate those sort of issues so count me in if you start one - it is just that this board really needs to be for support and help . Those who want to debate the treatments and other diabetic related issues perhaps a group solely dedicated to that would be the way to go. I would offer to start it myself but I really do not have the time to run another group - but I would join for sure.

If you read past posts from July on I think you know what we DON'T want. I also posted on one of the sites tonite that explains what we should have and had in the past.

Yes I am sure I do know -
You do NOT want people coming here making like they know everything just 'cause they can read. Does that about sum it up?

You got it - but add paste and cut - either it comes from the heart or shouldn't come at all. I'm surprised we weren't made to register for classes.

Oh dear - I am sorry but now and again I have been known to copy and paste.
Well wait around the registration for classes might come now that you have mentioned. I have been there and done that and am required to see my Educator every year and my Diabetic Practice Nurse every six months in order to keep my podiatry free to me and make sure that my licence is able to be kept current as well. Think I have enough - like up to my neck with classes so thanks but no thanks. LOL
