Scientists have suggested that the shape of your body can be an indicator of a future with Diabetes and related health problems.
Fat distribution can play an influential role as to whether or not you become Diabetic. Excess abdominal fat, the so-called 'apple-shaped body' is a stronger risk factor for Type 2 diabetes and heart disease than fat tissue on thighs and buttocks, the 'pear shaped body'. Visceral fat, otherwise known as belly fat, is linked to Cortisol which stimulates the appetite. Especially inducing cravings for fats and sugars. This abdominal accumulation of fats puts stress on the internal organs. The proximity of visceral fat to your liver produces excess LDL cholesterol which causes waxy plaque in the blood. This in turn narrows arteries and increases blood pressure. Putting excess strain on your heart and increases potential for stroke. So researchers have found that losing abdominal fat is one of the most important steps you can take to stay healthy for life. How can this be done? MUFA's (monounsaturated Fatty Acids) are proving to be very beneficial in lessening visceral fat. Eating a MUFA at every meal can help to protect your whole body. Focus exercise on abdominals. Not only is a flat belly sexy, it is healthier. Drink lots of water to help flush fats and toxins from your body. Posted on 11/01/09, 09:11 am |

The info can be found from various sources. Maybe try googling "Body shape diabetes" and "MUFA's" and "Visceral fat"...etc. I'm not sure what will pop up. But I am sure you can find additional information.

l am 'pre diabetic' & l'm Sicilian. Olive oil runs in my blood & pasta is a must. I highly recommend Dreamfields pasta. I dont like the 'spaghetti' shape 'cause it's too thick. Has anyone tried any spinach pastas?? if so, any probs w/bs?
