Here is a brief list of some of the abnormal genes that have been found to be associated with Type 2 Diabetes in people of European extraction: TCF7L2, HNF4-a, PTPN, SHIP2, ENPP1, PPARG, FTO, KCNJ11, NOTCh3, WFS1, CDKAL1, IGF2BP2, SLC30A8, JAZF1, and HHEX. And people from non-European ethnic groups have been found to have entirely different sets of diabetic genes, like the UCP2 polymorphism found in Pima Indians and the three Calpain-10 gene polymorphisms found associated with diabetes in Mexicans.

White sugar is a major contributor to diabetes Palyn. We consume far too much. In natural foods, the sugar is different and thus processed differently by our bodies. But when we invented table sugar, we increased metabolic dysfunction.
Along with that is the excessive use of High Fructose Corn Syrup. The cellular makeup of HFCS is shocking. There was a thread not to long ago where I expanded on this topic. This substance is in just about everything packaged. It is a HUGE contributor to the diabetes epidemic. Both substances have been shown to trigger diabetes markers in the body. While there have been some studies in recent years that go against the traditional thinking about sugar's link with diabetes, it is important to note that they are funded by various soda companies and sugar cane lobbyists. Obviously their agenda is to present info that dispells this theory. Lets not forget that not too long ago tobacco companies tried to do the same thing in promoting the notion that cigarettes did not cause cancer. Here are some links to peruse at your leisure. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releas... http://www.naturalnews.com/025644_... (this article shows how diet soda is also a major problem)

This is probably the most common misconception about diabetes. If you have diabetes, you do need to watch your sugar and carbohydrate intake to properly manage your blood sugar level with the help of your Registered Dietitian. However, if you do not have diabetes, sugar intake will not cause diabetes. So far, a diet high in calories, being overweight, and an inactive lifestyle are the main risk factors for Type 2 diabetes.
what about these? http://www.sugarstats.com/2008/07/... http://www.healthcastle.com/sugar-... http://www.netwellness.org/questio...

Stop using ficticious accounts. If you have something to say, do so as one name. Do you honestly think that people don't see through this charade?
As for sugar, because it converts to glucose in the body, high levels slowly erode the ability of cells in the pancreas to make insulin. The pancreas overcompensates, though, and insulin levels remain overly high. Gradually, the pancreas is permanently damaged. This causes a decrease in the manufacture of growth hormone which suppresses the immune system. Which is why diabetes is considered an immunological disease. All the excess sugar is modified in the blood. It becomes a form that sticks to and coats bloodstream proteins, which are normally "sugar-free." Thanks to this sugary film, the proteins don't function well, can be deposited in blood vessels, and can cause damage to them. This is why excessive sugar intake is indeed a precursor to the development of diabetes type 2. It changes the way the body functions on a cellular level. Once again, it is due to the extreme amounts of sugar we ingest on a daily basis in various forms. The average American consumes an astounding 2-3 pounds of sugar each week. Which of course offer no nutritional benefit and are devoid of minerals, vitamins, fiber which has a deteriorating effect on the endocrine system not to mention harming the body in many other ways. Because sugar is "empty calories", it causes our body to deplete its own vital nutrients from healthy cells to metabolize the incomplete food. This is why sugar is negative to bone density, tooth health and vision. Sugar also changes the alkaline/acid balance in the body which causes a buildup of blood toxins. Thus making the liver and spleen work harder to cleanse the blood. Not to mention it causes weight gain which is a well known condition in the deveolpment of diabetes. Does this mean diabetics shouldn't eat ANY sugar or sugar like substances? No, as with anything, moderation is the key. If you would like to read more than just googled fluff, try opening an actual medical journal. Stop by your local med school library and do some research. Or pay for access to documents and factual articles.
