I am really mad at the food corporations for filling in food with cheap high fructose corn syrup and other inexpensive sugars!!! I went to the store to get stuff to eat for the week and I thought that there would be something I could carry with me so I dont go over 4 hours without having something (tomatos dont work well in the heat, lol) I really could not find anything, so, I am stuck eating rabbit food and lean protien, blah, I never eat fast food, nor junk food so I thought the so called healthy food I was eating would still be fine, wrong... I think the anger is motivating me to exercise more than I was, so that I will get back down to my normal weight (before the wreck, steriods, pain meds and inactivety in the halo) then I will be able to get rid of the lable of diabetic, I hope, I am feeling stronger, and so much better...

flour, sugar, cereal are NOT part of a diabetic diet. You are giving false advice based on your thinking.

Trish you certainly are dealing with alot. Please don't give up the fight though. These things don't have to sap the quality of your life away from you.
Have you tried non impact type exercises like Yoga, Water Aerobics, TaiChi or Pilates? I read something recently on how even 10 mins a day of mild exercise can greatly increase management of things like diabetes and fibro. It will be hard at first I'm sure, but as your body builds up a tolerance to it things could improve for you. Maintaining muscle tone is especially important to diabetics in keeping glucose levels balanced. Once they atrophy, a whole slew of other problems enter into the picture. I truly understand the pain issue. My mom's neuopathy caused her incredible pain. Which is why she refused to exercise at all. Her comment always was "you don't understand". But really it was she who didn't undersand the damage she was doing to her body by NOT exercising. Think of it this way, you are going to have pain with or without the exercise. At least with the exercise you are helping to strengthen your body. A good physical therapist can help you to find a regime that works for you. Please consider investigating this more.

I really dont think you understand the pain issue, sockfuzz. I have right sided heart failure, extreme ashthma that has caused reduced air capacity, pulmonary hyptertension, as well as extreme neuropathy in my feet, caused by neuropathy. In most every excercise, you have to use your feet, which I cant even walk 300 feet before I am in tears. Only someone who has this much pain, can understand. I feel sorry for your mother because I DO understand how she felt. I do chair excercises, I used to swim with my oxygen, but just walking from the car to the pool was so extremely painful, my breathing got worse and I couldnt breathe. I am not complaining, I just would like you to understand that all the excercises you mentioned are impossible.

Goldi, nothing is impossible. There is always a way to make something work...even if that means changing what that something is.
So in your case why not do the chair exercises? Simple stretches with a dynaband to help keep your muscles engaged and strong. If walking far is an issue, use a wheelchair. That way you can still engage in the non impact, non weight bearing water exercises. Avoiding physical activity is NOT the answer. Unless of course you are willing to just give up and let your struggles suck the life right out of you. Is it easy? Absolutely not. But nothing worth while is ever easy. It is completely understandable to feel defeated when physical challenges present themselves. But really, is the alternative to fighting this worth it? To simply wither away? Does your doctor agree with you and support your conclusion that non activity is acceptable?

Sockfuzz.... you dont know me and you dont know what I do. I did not mean to say that I dont do anything, because I do. It is that I dont think you understand how painful this is, or you wouldnt be saying things that I and most other diabetics know already. I swim for an hour every day. I am on oxygen 24/7. The hardest part is walking from the car to the pool because of my feet and breathing. I get into the pool, which is also excrutiating on my feet and hook up a 50 foot hose to my oxygen tank and put it on a chair beside the pool. I get in and swim up and down for an hour. I get out and shower, change and get out to the car. I am in immense pain, but I do not give up. I do weights from my chair at home. I have been told I am strong and yes, even though it is hard, nothing is impossible. Do YOU swim with oxygen and foot neuropathy? Yes, my doctors agree with my excercise program.
