" Just started this about 1-2 months ago. Was taking januvia and metformin before. The new meds seem to be working. I do feel there has been a little weight gain. "

" I'm also on janumet. No meds. prior to taking this. Haven't noticed any real side effects except that it takes away appetite--which in my case is a good thing. "

" Hey hmshankle
Janumet (as you know) is the combination of Januvia and Metformin. Since Metformin went generic Merck was allowed to combine Januvia with Metformin at almost no extra cost to make Janumet
Here are some details because I know many of you on this site LOVE details:

1) Januvia is the FIRST in a new class of drugs, approved to treat type 2 diabetes
2) It is a class known as DDP-4 inhibitors that enhance the body's own ability to lower elevated blood sugar levels.
3) To TRY and put it in lay terms Januvia PROLONGS THE ACTIVITY of INCRETINS by prohibiting their breakdown thus helping the beta and alpha cells with glucose regulation.
4) Incretins are a type of gastrointestinal hormone that cause an increase in the amount of insulin released from the beta cells after eating AND slow the rate of absorption of nutrients into the blood stream by reducing gastic emptying.

Hope this helps
Dr O. "

" I was just diagnosed with pre-diabetes 04/2008. I was placed on 1/2 pill 1 x a day of the lowest dose of Janumet. This drug does curb my appetite, I am never hungry, but I have noticed that my sugar levels increase after I eat. I have never had high blood sugar, just problems with low sugar drops. Should I contact my doctor about this or is this normal? Also my stomach feels "bloated" and my face appears to be swelled some.
Please comment!
Thanks "
