I know the question about side affects from Metformin have been on here before. But I was wondering does anyone get heartburn from it? I've been on it since July of last year. Since then I've gotten heartburn from time to time. Now I'm getting heartburn atleast 2 to3 times a week. Could it be the Metformin? Or something else? I have a doctors appointment today (5-15). But I was wondering if anyone else gets it? Thanks for the responds.

" I take 4 pills a day of Metformin. I don't recall them specifically giving me heartburn. But I do know that they upset my stomach if I don't eat when I take them. My doctor gives me a med to take that counteracts what Metformin can do the kidneys. It is the same med that is taken for high blood pressure. Until I got used to it, it made me feel pretty cruddy. "

" I don't know what happened there........ Larry what medicine do you take? I take Linsinopril and they said that would help protect my kidneys. They did give it to me specifically for high blood pressure. I went to the doctors today and he gave me some medicine to help with the heartburn called protonix. I am to try that and see if it helps. " I can't remember what the med is called, I'm terrible about remembering that, have to write it down everytime I go to the doctor. I'll let you know when I go home this evening and check the label. I think it may be Linsinopril, but I'm not sure. "

" Linsinopril is the med I take along with Metformin. It is the second med I tried to go along with Metformin. The first one made me feel so drowsy and listless that I asked the doctor to change meds. That was a couple years ago.

It is really storming hard here in Eastern Kansas; lots of lightning, so I think I'd better get off the computer for awhile. "

" I take Metformin ER 1000 mg. and Lisinopril HCTZ 10 mg. a day and it doesn't give me heartburn...I've never heard it protected the liver. "

" Any blood pressure med protects the kidneys - it has nothing to do with the liver. The liver can be affected by cholesterol med. "

" I recently quit taking Metformin - was on about 2,000 mg a day and am also currently taking lisinopril as well as glyburide and Actos. The only side effect I've noticed from the lisinopril is a dry, hacky cough. However, I have also noticed that I haven't had nearly as much heartburn/acid reflux since going off the Metformin. Now, that said, I have also changed my eating habits a great deal with far fewer carbs and have lost about 20 pounds. So exactly what made the difference in the hearburn, I'm not sure. But, I do know when I first started taking Metformin about eight years ago I felt very bloated, gassy and constipated for a while. We're all different individuals, so Metformin or lisinopril either one could cause you side effects that they don't cause for someone else. I hope you find an answer 'cuz the heartburn can really be miserable. Take care. "
