Anxiety?

Is anxiety a part of your diabetes? If so, how do you handle it. I already had it from menopause (sorry guys) but it seems to be amplifying. This is not just a "girls" question. Any comments are appreciate. Thanks.
Sue.

" you will probably go thru many emotions with diabetes, it takes a while for things to level out. Just take a deep breath and breathe in and out slowly, go take a leisurely walk when you feel this way or put on the radio and dance around the living room lol "

" There are some herbal supplements that have helped me in the past but am not able to take them anymore due to taking an antidepressant.

Talk to your doctor about Valerian or Passionflower. I used to use Valerian, 1 capsule as needed and it relaxed me when I had anxiety. "

" I find that my anxiety level has increased but I am not sure it is due to the diabletes.. My husband has chronic back pain and I think that the anxiety is coming from all the changes we are experiencing as a couple. "

" I have had anxiety for years but it didn't start
from diabetes but I do get anxiety because
I have diabetes.

What I do that helps any form of anxiety:

A nap
Read a book that will soothe me
Go for a walk and notice the beauty of nature
Put on some music that I like and sing
Dance to some upbeat music
Call a friend
Visit a family member or friend
Play a game online
Play with my dog
Drink a class of ice water "

" I am so glad you asked this question, because I am an anxious person in general (tense-I chew on the inside of my cheeks all the time) and was thinking of asking the same thing!

I don't have a good way to relax. My mind is always buzzing. It does help me some to write or listen to music though. Horseback riding works too, for, me, as long as my horse is behaving that day. LOL. I am post menopausal too, so am not the cowgirl I once was.

But the relaxation never lasts long. It is so unhealthy and I want to reduce it, but I am on so many meds and my doctor doesn't like to prescribe too much, so I haven't asked. Every darn time I go in, I bring up another problem.

Okay, thanks for letting me post my stream of consciousness, as I tend to do. "

" For me, getting a blood glucose reading that doesn't fit to MY liking, gives me instant anxiety. I hate that part especially because I know that the stress from anxiety just raises the numbers even more. "

" I just saw a great post from the American Diabetes Association regarding just this topic, on Sharecare.com's QA site:

Q: Why do I feel anxious all the time with diabetes?

A: Lots of people feel anxious, whether they have diabetes or not, especially these days. Having diabetes only adds to the burden of worry...Low blood glucose levels can also contribute to anxiety. When people are low, they often say they feel shaky and agitated, and since low blood glucose can be embarrassing and even dangerous, many people worry a lot about getting low...Preventing lows is important, but so is preventing highs.

Here another Sharecare.com QA I found interesting:

"How are my mood swings related to my diabetes?"

I hope these help!

Best wishes, "

" I can relate to all that everyone had to say. i too was hoping for some feedback on it. Newly diagnosed type 2 at the end of july--and develloping new food allergies as well, it's a challenge, but I'm trying to hang..Oh, and going thru Hurrican Isaac ddin't help!

But for relief, I come here, to read supportive responses that calm my fears that "I am the only one experiencing this". I also watch tv that's fun (like andy griffith), and play a few online relaxing games at a afavorite gamesite. I need to get out and will try some of the things you all suggested. When I'm most anxious, I pull out my coloring books and crayons...old school style distraction. Here's to us..We've got each other and we'll be all right!! (I'll get by with a little help from my friends) "
