Diabetes Type 2 Support Group

I was on Metformin extended release for about a year and I stayed hungry. I was miserable and my sugar levels were still high. My doctor recently doubled my dose and added Byetta.

I did not lose or gain weight while I am on Metformin...maybe it is too early to tell or because I am just pre-diabetic? Two things I know is that it doesn't help me the shaking and sweating hypoglycemia and another is that the period lasts a bit longer than before once I started it. :(

i was the complete opposite to you liberty. i couldnt stop eating with high sugar levels, but immediately i went on metformin and my sugar levels came down i wasnt interested in food. strange how db affects different ppl in different ways eh????

Hi - I've only been on Metformin for a week, and I have to say that I find that I am hungry much more than before I went on it. I'm also eating more regularly throughout the day - perhaps it's helping my metabolism, keeping the furnace lit and all that. I'm also experiencing some serious issues with diahrrea. I hope these symptoms subside!

metformin decreased my appetite, I found after I been on a few weeks I could no longe eat fish , the smell alone made me sick.??

Sounds like a paradoxical effect to me. Metformin was initially developed to be a weight loss drug; however it was discovered that it has such a profound effect on blood sugar that it was worked up and approved for use as an antihyperglycemic agent. As for me, I have to actually MAKE myself eat anything while I'm on my current dosage. I simply could not care less about eating.

My appetite decreased on Metformin even though I still have trouble losing the weight.
