Carb grams and sugar gram

Hi, new to the site and newly diagnosed diabetic. I'm trying and trying to find some sort of guidelines as to how many grams of sugars and carbs I can have in a day. I thought I was doing everything right, but my numbers average in the 150's. How bad is that? My life is a mess right now, with very limited income and no medical insurance. Any suggestions? I'm doing well dieting and have lost about 25 pounds since being diagnose abouut 3 months ago. I'm on metomorphin, taking 2 pills a day. I would really appreciate some guidelines. Thanks!

" Congrats on the weight loss!

While there are recommendations for food intake, each individual differs according to how their body responds to foods and meds and activity etc. So keep that in mind when trying to work out a plan for yourself. With Diabetes, it is important to be flexible.

Here is a link to the "Diabetic Food Pyramid". It will help you to determine a baseline.

I know you mentioned you have no insurance, but if you can find a live support group in your area it would be very helpful. Look at your local hospitals or health education centers for Diabetes Support. They will usually have a Diabetes Educator or Physician who will help you design a food/living plan for you. Also check with your local resources for financial help in this area. Since you have been diagnosed with Diabetes, you may qualify for additional benefits. "
