I have been running a BG baseline of about 95 for the last 4 weeks...I test about 2 hours after eating and it back to baseline by then. I have a friend who is T2 also and on the same meds..500 MG of Metformin..2 times a day. He is running baseline of about 80. We have both been diagnosed with in about 2 months of each other, Me about 2 months ago..and he was diagnosed about 4 months ago. My question is, should I be getting be concerned that my baseline isnt as low as his? Or, after more time will the meds help me get my baseline lower?

Huh?
Blood glucose targets two hours post prandial is less than 140. So I'm not sure why you are worried about a 95.

Everyone is different. Your friend eats at different times and eats different foods than you do. Also, you have to take into consideration that you may be taller/shorter/ heavier/lighter than each other. Go with the national average numbers not with your friend.
The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) recommends the following general blood glucose testing goals for adults with type 1 and type 2 diabetes: • Preprandial* (fasting, or before a meal) -

My baseline is around 95 after 4 years. I think your baseline may remain where it is the body has reached its setpoint so to speak could be wrong may well be you will creep down into the 80,s

Could someone explain 'baseline' for me? I think I get the concept but how do you determine what it is? My husband can't go by his morning readings because he has yet to figure out why they're all over the place. And he can't really use an average because he's not terribly consistent about when he tests.
Thanks in advance, -FM

This is how I think about baseline readings.
I will eat 30 or 40 grams of carb each meal and then check an hour later, this shows the peak glucose concentration for that meal if it is too high say 180 I know that carb is to heavily refined and restrict it from the diet (ie triscuit crackers) 2 hrs after the meal I check again and see if I have reached my metabolic blood sugar level usually 95 if it is I know that the carb content for the meal was correct. If your husband is suffering elevated sugar on awakening he is probably experiencing Dawn Phenomenon(google for more information) I take 500mg metformin at bedtime and it seems to stop DP in my case, there are other remedies.Your husband should check 2 hrs after a meal until he is confident that what he eats is being handled properly then testing can become more sporadic my test strips are free so I test regularly.
