Sorry its me again....but Ive got this strange sweet taste in my mouth,I am taking dieretics could this be the reason...?

Am concerned as a month ago I had problems with my potassium levels...and I really do not want a repeat of that nightmare.

Is sweet taste in mouth an indication of something wrong..?
Im also using the new byetta pen.

Any help would truly be appreciated.
I was even questioning the toothpaste as being the culprit, but feel its not that.
Could it be dehydration..?

" Hi Blue, don't be sorry, thats what a forum like this is for! :)

That said, what are you blood sugars lately? Also, do you have any urine sticks where you can check for protein in your urine? Sometimes ketosis will cause this effect. "

" Hi bluejeanz,

Yes, definitely check for ketosis (protein in urine). Are you on a very calorie-restricted diet? Does your urine have any strange odor?

Lots of people seem to have this problem and no-one (on my little romp around the internet) was sure of the cause. Medication is another possibility...antihistamines, antibiotics and anti-depressives can give you dry-mouth/strange tastes.

You may get some relief by chewing sugarless gum to stimulate your salivary glands, hopefully flushing away the sweet taste. (Does the taste come with dry-mouth?)

Stay hydrated, whatever else you do.

Best,
-fm "
