regular daily BG testing

Hi everyone, I know I don't visit that often, but I have a question today. Does anyone ever go a long stretch of time without checking their sugars daily?

I was just diagnosed in '07 and have faithfully tested everyday. I have not been able to test my sugar on a daily basis like I usually do because I cannot afford the measley $15 co-pay to get my strips.
Is that ok? Am I over reacting? Are there others who don't test all the time?

I'm just nervous~

Thanks, Dawn

" I did, and it was disastrous! There is no good way to guess at what your reading is without actually testing -- my suggestion is that you see about changing to cheaper strips or a new meter that onlty uses cheaper strips (like Wal-Mart's Reli-On meter), or see if your doctor's office can hook you up somehow. " yup.. I agree with Cliff. I test four times a day, sometimes more, but I have to because unless I hit on a real low, I wouldnt be able to know what it is. I know you problem about the test strips. I have that problem too. I am going to look into Walmart to see if they are cheaper. "

" I test twice a day, and when I suspect that I may be going low. My diabetes support group has access to free meters and test strips. Do you have a support group in your area? "

" Travis and Cliff those are wonderful suggestions. Lovies, check the ADA website to see where diabetes groups are in your area. Local hospitals also often run free diabetic support groups. They will have resources that can help you. One other option is to contact your insurance company. Tell them you are having financial trouble in getting your supplies, sometimes they have programs available also. Or can set you in the direction of someone who could.

As for not testing, it is just too dangerous. How do you know how much insulin to give if you aren't checking your blood glucose? "

" Well I am the bad girl of the group, I guess. I have not tested mine since May. I know when I am getting a low. I take my meds 2x day. I watch my diet. I just really forget. I am not on insulin so....; but don't go by me. I get free meter offers all the time. Look in magazines. All you need is the lil part you can tear out. Have a great weekend. Pepper (There is an ad next to this email that says "Get supplies free: AmericanDiabetesWholesale.com . ) ??? Who knows, but it is worth a try. Pepper "

" Before I bought a meter I got some free ones from the pharmacy. No harm in asking and each one had 10 strips so maybe that would last you until you get the 15$ "

" Gee.. I test at least four times a day. But like on a day like today, I started to sweat and feel shaky and couldnt hardly see. I tested and it was 2.5 I dont know what happened. I just tested before breakfast, and it was 5,5 I had to take orange juice and I had that after feeling of a low all day. I wish I could get test supplies like you guys do, because I have to pay myself after the governments $500 worth, that only lasts about four months.. diabetes clinic, pharmacy, no one seems to be able to help. "

" I pay for my test supplies Goldi but I check once a day most days. I use Walmarts meters because the strips are around 22 dollars for 50 "
