last october my doctor told me i had pre- diabetes , my blood test he took had came back 150 fasting.he told me that i could have type 2 in a few years . i started changing my diet . i haven't had a soft dring since october or any sugar . i sweeten with splenda. i count my carbs .in the mornings my blood glucose varies from 118 to 135 , two hours after meals it is usually between 150 and 190. it never goes over 200. i am not on any medication . my question is , are these levels high enough to cause damage to my body ?

I still think your numbers are too high. I don't know if your numbers are 150 after eating or not - but that's still too high. It shouldn't go past 140 at any time.

Yikes!! Watermelon will spike your blood sugar really fast. I can eat some things that alot of diabetics cant, like potatos and bananas, but even I cant touch watermelon. It is pure sugar and water. That is why your bs spiked. I agree with Arlene though, you probably need medication.

Dizzylizzie:
Please don't panic over the warning about metformin. Remember we are all individuals and we all may react differently to medications. Some of us have side effects with it and some don't. Diabetes can do far more damage to your organs than the meds if it goes untreated. Diet and exercise are great whether you are pre-diabetic or diabetic, but diabetes isn't like the chicken pox or a cold. You don't get over it with time. Diabetes comes about because the pancreas has been damaged in some way and doesn't produce the insulin as it should or your body doesn't properly use whatever amount of insulin it does make. It's a sneaky evil disease and I'm convinced that it loves to lurk in the shadows and pounce on those of us who don't take it seriously when we should. If your doctor can't see you right away to do an A1C test, you can actually buy them over the counter these days. I've found them at Wal-mart for one. This test is important because it gives you a better overall picture than just one fasting glucose test. It's not a failure if you have to take meds. They're simply an adjunct to eating right and exercising. It's a matter of finding the right meds that work for you instead of against you. Diabetes is often unpleasant with the meds and what seems like constant lab tests. It's also inconvenient, expensive and requires so darn much math which I personally hate. But, you can live in spite of it if you do all you can to take proper care of yourself. I wish you peace. Hugs and best wishes.

Every food effects every one different i know many can not eat certain fruits it raises their sugar i have found that Blueberries and strawberries and cherries barely raise mine but cantalope does.
When i did in the start to learn more about what fruits did and did not effect me was before i ate i tested and 2 hours after i tested i kept a journal of my numbers as well as what i ate I also counted the carbs in everything There is a great counter and tracker at Spark pages website. (google for link) Also remember Portion control I learned in diabetic class that the portions I was eating were sabotaging me i had to rework my way of reading and understanding food panels and knowing what made a portion. Honestly to help you i would contact your local hospital or health department and see if they offer a diabetic education class It helped me a LOT They told me to eat 25 to 30 carbs a meal and 15 to 20 a snack 3 meals a day 2 snacks a day while i stay on top of that it really does help a LOT Good Luck
