Lizzie,
I am not sure what the technical limits are for blood sugar in regards to nerve damage. I do know that elevated blood sugar levels can cause nerve damage as well as damage to body organs eventually if left uncontrolled. I have type 2 diabetes and my blood sugar A1c test results have been coming back as 6.0 which is excellent and where they should be. If I were you I would discuss this with your doctor and keep a log of your blood sugar finger stick results. That way he will know how you are doing. That's the best two cents worth I can give you :-)

Get an A1C test----Gives a much more accurate idea of your Blood sugar levels over the last 10 weeks or so....Anybody can have one good or bad fasting blood sugar test.

I agree a A1C should have been ordered by the doctor when you got a pre diabetes result.
i was told i had pre diabetes in 2004 i was placed on a low does of Metformin. Dummy me did not however at that time take it serious she never did a A1C and the numbers went back to normal and i quit taking the meds. In 2008 i had labs and a physical and i discovered i was Full blown Diabetic. My A1C ws up to 12% Which is pretty bad It should be 4 to 6 max. I would see if your local hospital or Health Dept has a Diabetic Education program and go to that It can be a hug help to teach you about this disease. Also a support group is helpful as well. Just please be sure you stay on top of it and your Doctor does as well so that you do not end up like I did. i now have bad nerve pain in my feet and still can not get it under control. Good Luck

I agree with all the others....the A1c test is a good measurement of your blood glucose over a period of time to get an average measurement. I am sorry I didn't explain the test further...I guess I assumed you already knew what it was.....so sorry!!!

Technically anything above the normal range is damaging to your body. When too much glucose is in your blood, it damages your body's cells. This of course takes time to cause noticable damage. First to go is usually the eyes, kidneys and nerves.
So if you have been diagnosed as "Pre" then you are fortunate enough that you can still reverse the onset of diabetes. At the very least stave it off longer. It is as simple as changing your diet and exercise. Eat healthy and get moving. Sleep at least 8 hours a day and drink lots of water. You will see a dramatic drop in your blood glucose readings.

If you are watching your diet, my opinion is that you already have diabetes. 200 is way too high. I would suggest you go back to your doctor, get the A1C test and go from there. I think you will have to go on meds.
