Advice:
Actos?

At my last doctor appointment she mentioned that she might put me on Actos at my next appointment. As I usually do I came home and researched it and after reading about it I DON'T want to take it. I certainly don't need the weight gain that seems to come with it, and the black box warnings scared me.

Can those of you on Actos share your experiences and maybe help me make a definite decision on wether or not I want to take it?

" I take actos, and haven't gained any weight. My doctor suggests adding byetta with actos, but to be honest I have yet to really grasp the shot everyday. So I can say that the byetta isn't counteracting the weight gain. I'm just not gaining weight, nor have I had any other side affects from actos. "

" If you have an option to take something else, then do so. I was on Actos for a month and I gained 15 pounds. Not easy to take it off now. Don't take it if you can take something else. Good luck! "

" I was on Actos and I did gain weight and it didn't do anything for my blood sugar. Actos now has a Black Box warning on it. Talk to her about Metformin. And if she isn't an endocrinologist go to one. Its the best thing I ever did. "

" I was put on actos and had severe swelling in my legs , ankles and feet. There is a warning that is can cause congestive heart failure ,due to the excess fluid. I was swellingso bad it hurt to walk. It was a week end andi called my pharmacist because i needed a refill and told him about my problems. He said I can not tell you not to take it,but if it were "me" Iwould not. After i stopped taking actos, in about 4-5 days my swelling had gone djown tremendoulsy. So I will never take it again. Avandia worked great for me as far as keeping my levels even and no side effect noticiable, but they took me off of that too because of the "heart" attack scare. So im back on metformin, couldn't take it because of the stomach upset, but if i eat something before i take it , it does ok. Good luck. sorryto write so much "
