Carb counting...

If you do carb counting, I'm wondering if you could let me know your techniques throughout daily living.

Do you use a book? If so, which one?
Do you keep a card of most used carbs?
Do you use a progam for carb counting?
What do you do when going out?
Do you take the time to do it each day?
What do you do when you're in stressful or busy situations?
What do you do, if you can not look up the meal that you ate when going out to dinner?

Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

" I went on a course called DAFNE. Among other things they taught me to carb count. To be honest I am not as precise as I could be. I tend to roughly guess stuff. Also I am a person of habit and tend to eat the same stuff. For breakfast I have toast or cereal, both of which have carbs on the packet. For lunch a sandwich, again on the bread packet. Evening meals vary. If I am out or something I guesstimate and sometimes I am right, sometimes I am wrong. Portions are important, I find it helps to use the same plates and pans etc so you get used to what a portion looks like and can do it by eye. "

" The Calorie King is a great book. When I was 1st diagnosed about 3 yrs ago, it was my "Bible". Then I got tired of lugging it around everywhere I went. Heavy in the purse!

When I work, I stick with the same foods. Usually frozen meals, pudding, oatmeal, etc. Anything that has the carbs on the packaging. Much easier.

Dinner time & eating out is the most difficult for me. I always "guesstimate". I am now on the pump & it has made my life sooo much easier. But I still have my highs & lows. Usually highs because I don't take enough insulin in fear of going low at night.

I also, carry a cheat sheet of carbs for the foods that I eat the most.

Hope this helps! "
