I'm on day 3 of my quit (yeeeyyy) and all is well so far...except for my blood sugar grrrr! I'm taking chantix, which isn't supposed to have an effect but...who knows. You're supposed to need less insulin when you stop smoking but I'm using almost double at the moment....hope this sorts itself soon,I haven't rollercoasted like this for a few years and it's awful!!! Anyone else experienced this? x

" I have never smoked but I wanted to say well done for quitting, smoking is the worst thing for a diabetic and its really good you stopped. I have heard others say that when they stop smoking their eating increases so they have something in their mouths...is this you? Has your eating changed since you stopped? "

" I haven't been eating any more as I'm quite controlled about my food...I've been drinking loads of extra water instead.Hopefully this will even itself out soon,it may just be the chantix.I know smoking is the worst thing I can do so I'll deal with whatever I have to at the moment :) xx "

" Ok well then the best thing is to keep on taking more insulin and maybe call your nurse or someone to talk about your blood sugars in more detail. "

" Smoking does increase your metabolism so I wouldn't be surprised if quitting doesn't decrease it making you need more insulin.

I do know for my one friend it took about three months for her sugar levels to come back down but then again she got a nasty cough and literally was coughing up chunks of tar off her lungs into the sink! Oh how I miss being a room mate of hers when she did that! Okay maybe not. ;-)

We guessed that there had to be inflammation in her lungs due to this shedding and healing process that may have caused her BS to go out of whack like when you get sick.

I know for me I had a slight increase and I was the second hand smoker when she quit. It was nothing like 2X though and I think it could have been due to the stress of dealing with a person wigged out from not smoking!

Good job though on getting to day three! I hope you continue on your smokingless path! "
