Your lowest blood sugar?

Okay, I'm curious. I've been a type 1 since 1981. In all this time I rarely ever had a blood sugar lower than 50. Once about 10 years ago, I had a blood sugar of 12. This morning I had a blood sugar of 33. Both at 12 and 33, I felt perfectly normal and yes, my tester was in perfect running order with a retest taken for verification. According to what I've read, when one has a blood sugar under 40, you can pretty much say hello to the grim reaper (seizures and brain death). What has been your lowest blood sugar, yet of course, surviving?

" I have gestational diabetes and my lowest has been 33...the other day it was 44...my dad is a paramedic and said that my TrueTrack glucometer is not one of the more reliable one's out there...so he used his AccuChek...it said 64...which I still felt like crap, so the blood sugar was low for me..I'm doubting the accuracy of the 33 reading, though..however, I DID feel like someone was choking me..I was real light-headed, and could barely find the energy to move and get something to eat... " I agree with bonnytiz, HBA1Cs are getting lower and lower. For those of us not lucky enough to be on a pump it is hard to attain these and it is hit and miss so we can easily end up low.

Nyunyuelf, meters usually are not entirely accurate, and can be about 1-2 mmol out. But then again if your blood sugars have been very high consistently and then go down, you can get a 'false hypo' - because the NGs are lower than your body is used to it is registering it as a hypo even though it isn't one.

My lowest recently has been 1.9. That was at the weekend. I had had some wine and also overinjected so was hypo for several hours, it wouldn't go back up. I find it hard to measure how much I am eating when half asleep and hypo so I am not sure exactly what I had. Anyway I was around 2 (36) for a couple of hours, ate and then slept. I woke up and checked again and I was 25 (450)! I injected again and came down to 1.9 (34.1). I managed to get it straightened out in the end though. "

" Well from what i understand every one is different when it comees to blood sugars. my lowest was a 21 and i do not remember about 30mins of it. my highest was 620 and i was awake but felt like i had a 12pk. Some people will pass out before they get that high or low. I became type 1 after a car wreck. Was sick for three years after before i found out. "

" Wow! I can't imagine a 19 or lower. My low was 27 and I was unconscience. The paramedics came and still had a hard time bringing me out of it. For 2 weeks after that I was shaky, saw flashing lights 24 x 7: the neurologist said I apparently had some minor brain damage from the low. All I know is, those 2 weeks were horrible and I never want to go thru that again. "

" My lowest was 35, back when I was 16 or so. Just this past week I went down to 43. I felt really shaky and it took what seemed like forever for my sugar to go up again. "

" I feel bad at 70. but my sis went down to 21 once. She was out of it. Then she went down to 32 and was perfectly fine (this was about five yrs later). It just affects people differently I guess. Although it did turn out she had addisons disease and now she acts like a little kid by the time she gets down to 50 "
