Your lowest blood sugar?

Okay, I'm curious. I've been a type 1 since 1981. In all this time I rarely ever had a blood sugar lower than 50. Once about 10 years ago, I had a blood sugar of 12. This morning I had a blood sugar of 33. Both at 12 and 33, I felt perfectly normal and yes, my tester was in perfect running order with a retest taken for verification. According to what I've read, when one has a blood sugar under 40, you can pretty much say hello to the grim reaper (seizures and brain death). What has been your lowest blood sugar, yet of course, surviving?

Lowest reading I have ever had was 0.9 here, which if i calculated it right is about 16 there. At 0.9 I did have seizures but didn't see the grim reaper at that time. All caused by my specialist putting me on a drug to stop palpatations, which had a known side effect of masking hypos. Needless to say I see another specialist for my diabetes now.

I once had a my meter say LO! so I don't know how low that was. It must have been really low so that the meter couldn't read it?? I don't know. I've also had it so hi that the meter only said Hi! It didn't start showing a number until my bs came down into the high 600's. That was actually really scarey because I was seeing things in my vision even when I closed my eyes. I don't know how to desribe it...

Shannie, with my eyes closed I sometimes see stars all over the place. It's sort of like being outside on a dark night when one can see the whole Milky Way. It's actually kind of neat and I don't mind it at all. I just sit inside when it happens, close my eyes and watch the "star" show!

I have had one or two between 1.5 and 1.8, I was perfectly normal, I knew I was low but nothing else happened, It was scary though!I think the problem is that they are wanting our HBA1c so low now that we are trying to keep our b/g too low and having hypos, its so unrealistic and dangerous.

On two occasions (since 1980) I recall numbers about 19, but the scary part was that no matter what I took to raise it the levels stayed at that number. On both occasions after drinking a half gallon of highly sweet juice with no effect I thought I was going to pass out. I used all of my remaining strength not to as I thought I wouldn't come out of it if I lost consciousness. After close to an hour on both occasions I finally felt it rising, and of course it went up thru the sky as well. I guess going from 16 to 600 is all in a lousy day's work for some of us (on a real bad day). When something like that happens it's best to just move on and try to make sure it doesn't happen again.
