aspartame warning/ synthetic sweetners

I just learned over the ladt few months about to dangerous synthetic sweetners.
My roommate is type 1 diabetic. Well every once in a while she would get two or three days in a row with numbers off the chart. 270s, 370s and 400 all day. During times when she ate 10 or less carbs then she was allowed. I had no clue what was happening and getting scared and mad. Well it turns out aspartame counteracts insuline and made my roommate get super highs. I also found out that acesuflame potassium makes stored sugar in the body leak out and cause super highs. Dangerous acesuflame potassium and aspartame. Avoid them if you can. The others like splenda cause tumors in rats, one type causes joint pain or headaches. But the two i mentioned are super bad and cause highs. About the safest two are splenda (sucralose) and xylatol. Use synthetic sugars at your own risk. Posted on 06/15/12, 03:49 pm |

I dont do well with those fake sugars either. They make me feel yucky and weak. Id rather not have any sugar at all or would rather have the real sugar then to use those fake sugars.
There are all kinds of studies on them and how bad they are for us. And the thing is a lot of those foods made with fake sugars are still high in carbs which means even the sugar free foods will raise our blood sugar. When they put "sugar free" on the package I think it is a way to get diabetics to buy it. They probably hope we arent educated enough on carbs to know that sugar free foods have carbs in them and it is the carbs that harm our blood sugars. It's all for the money probably :( Countless times Ive heard diabetics say things like "it's ok because its no sugar added or sugar free" When I tell them to look at the carb count they dont wanna mess with it. :( I dont say anything anymore because people dont care or wanna know anyways :( It is sad but true. That sugar free stuff is deceiving :(

There are many types of sugars and sweetners snd each has it's own issues. Sucrose is natural sugar and safe for diabetics in low doses like under 5 per product and 20 or so in a whole meal. But the aspartame and acesuflame potassium i recently learned cand make you spill out stored sugars and cause your insuline to not work and tgerefore you get spazzy highs.
Also sucralose, saccharin and many other synthetic sugars do not react and cause highs they can cause headaces, jouint pain and cancer. I do know however gum sweetners and others that are sugar alcohols are much safer and do not make your numbers go crazy. Xylatol moltitol, sorbitol. The ones with tol at the end. And yes you are right, sugar free does not mean carb free. It also meand synthetic sugars are in the product too. Look at the label and tge further down the sunthetic sugar is in the list the less a product has. If it is the first two or three ingredients it is heavily in the product. As with any sugar or carb do your research and test it for yourself. If it works use it. If you get unexplained highs several days then investigate the synthetic sugars/ sugar free free foods you recently ate. Good luck everyone. P.S. knowing a synthetics chenical name as well as brand name help. Sucralose (splenda) etc.
