I have heard about this diabetic pump that is available. Is it only available in the USA and how much does it cost?

" Usually your insurance will cover it (in the states), but the one I have was $5,000.00 and MY copay was $1,000.00 to which I made payments.

Then there are the supplies. I spend about 90.00 per month for pump supplies (not including the insulin).

It can add up, but its worth not having to spend a night in the hospital. I love it. I have soooo much flexibility in my diet now. I can exercise and sleep whenever I want (and it doesn't affect my sugar). Worth EVERY PENNY and having to wear it all the time!!! A1C is 6. and I am 12 weeks pregnant. I could never live without it.

I don't know how it works in other countries. You may have to pay cash for it? You should check with your doc or nurse.

Jess "

" I saw my doctor today and she is happy with my blood sugar levels and took blood for my HBA1C.
I asked her about the pump and it is available here in South Africa but only in the private health sector as it is expensive. The government hospitals will not sell it as it is too expensive and I don't have medical insurance, as I cannot afford it. So, i wont be able to have the pump anytime soon. "

" Mrkyboi, you should keep trying. Make a fuss. Contact South African diabetes charities, your local politician, the local and national press. Get online support, set up a petition. "
