Hi, my name is Cindy and I am 49 years old. I've read some of your posts and can hear the frustration in so many of you suffering with this health issue that I to am wondering if I have.

Several years ago as in about 20 I started having very severe back pain and a phsiatrist sent me to a p.t. who specialized in trigger points. She found them on the inside of my thighs but it did not make the pain in my lower back go away and I preceded to have a spinal fusion/laminectomy.

It took 3 or 4 years for the soft tissue to heal and I continued having sacroiliac joint troubles where the right side would go out and if anyone has had this happen you know its unbelievable pain. After about 8 yrs post surgery I was given the correct diagnosis for that. But, for some reason I started getting knots in the S.I area and for those that don't know this is on the buttocks towards the inner side. Also, in the hips.

When I am active these flair up and I can't walk unless they are deactivated. Ok, try and follow me here I'm getting to the punch line.

Last summer I had a electric spinal stimulator implant put in my back but ended up with a staff infection so it was explanted. I was laid up for 3 weeks with intrav.IV then I got the flu so I was about 5 weeks bed bound.

When I tried to get around I was very weak and hunched up like I was 79 not 49. So, I heard of a phys.therapist who did deep tissue massage and went to him about 25 times and though it hurt it did help me.

I havn' gone since last december and I am noticing more knots some like marbles, others soft like fatty tissue. The I.T. bands (illotibial) that run down the sides of my thighs stay very clustered and I've even found knots in my abdomen.
Well, I guess you can see that I am very concerned b/c if I rub certain ones they hurt where others when rubbed give relief.

All this along with having high cholesterol..managed with Crestor but my trigclerides are at 300. Makes me wonder if these knots have something to do with the trig.
My Internal med. doctor says they are just fatty tissue and blows it off. And, just wants me on another drug for trig.

Well, the last 3 weeks I have been eating unusually healthy determined to improve my diet but these lumps arent' going away. I tried working in the yard Tues. and couldn't even walk that evening.

I did some research on Lipoprotein Lipase Deficiency after reading a reply on the Fibromyagia board and I read on a website that zolaft, diuretics, beta blockers, oral estrogen, alcohol can increase triglcyceride concentration. So, I am starting to feel like a cat chasing its tail. Especially, after talking to the dr. who prescribes the Zolaft.
I'm on 300 mg of this medicine and I am wondering if this is whats causing the trig. to go up and in turn I may have a lipase deficiency and lipase is what breaks down our fats and w/o it we store fat in lipomas.

Ok, to rap this up there seems to be two things going on. The trigger pts from most likely be out of shape that stem from my back issues or could have gotten worse b/c I've been on SSRI's for 20 years. Makes you wonder doesn't it? And, now the trigcleride problem.

I am hopeing some of you may have something in common with these symtoms. I wrote down Dr.Herbst name in San Diego but I do not think this is autoimmune. I have labs taken every 3 to 4 months b/c of Crestor and it would have shown something wouldn't it?

Sorry for such a long intro. but I thought I would do the full spill and just maybe this group will be helpful and I hope I have contributed also.

Thanks
Cindy

Rephrase - S.I. (Sacro-illiac joint) is located in the upper central part of the buttocks. On each cheek. The knots I also have in the hips. Now, I'm finding them in my calves and knees.
Maybe, this is fibromyalgia and myofascial pain. That would explain the trigger pts. (hard knots) and the all over pain. "

Hi everyone! since we have a disease with no treatment or cure, I have been trying to log down what works and what doesn't so Ican help others along with your assistance treatments that work for Dercum's so we can give others with this Disease steps in how to manage the disease. I will start I have lipomas but the majority is lipomatosis which is everywhere. The surgeon will not remove the lipomas unless they are large. If tries to remove the lipomatosis I will have nasty scars, and the lipomasand lipomatosis will reappear. so for me surgery is not an option. MY Program consists with : 1. Morphine it works best for me, take extended release 3 x a day for maintence. once a day did not work. dilaudid for BT medication
2. Muscle relaxant 3 x a day .
3. Cymbalta for depression, neuropathic pain
4. lidoderm patch
5. GERD diet
6. acupuncture or water therapy(aquatic)
7. walking (exercise)
8. for me I would like to get intrathecal pain pump my reason is: the morphine works the best, the disease is slowly progressive it will become worse overtime and the dose can be adjusted. you don't need as much morphine with the pump, and it cuts down side effects.

Since I have started these treatment except pain pump working on it my pain level has been consistenly at a level 3. even my flairs went from 10 to an 8. I have not had to call pain management and I have to had to go to er for pain control. Fatigue is the biggest problem now.

A PAIN LEVEL 3 IT IS WORKING: PLEASE TELL ME TREATMENTS THAT HAVE WORKED FOR YOU SO WE CAN MAKE A LIST TO HELP OTHERS!!1
