I have been felling very depressed for about 10 months. I've tryed talking to my parents about it but they don't understand how I feel. Espically my dad he thinks depression is something people get over very quickly and feel better just by talking about it. I don't know about other people but for me it doesn't work that way. I have constant thoughts of cummiting suicide and felling fat. I'm starting to think life isn't worth living anymore. PLEASE HELP!

" For whatever reason, a lot of kids' parents don't seem to understand when they're going through depression. It took a trip to the ER and an official diagnosis to get my father to start believing me, and my mother still insists that I'm just "lazy" and "stupid." Does your school have a counselor you could talk to? Even the school nurse can offer you advice on what you can do. Or if you have understanding friends, maybe talking to them could help too. "

" No one I know really understood/understands my depression. They all think it's something that I can just talk about, recover from, and move on from, but it really isn't that simple. I think the problem is that they think there is a logical solution for depression, when in reality depression is not logical at all, or else I would not be so hung up over it. Try to think of the people who do care about you and who would not want you to hurt yourself. A dependable friend can be good to talk to; talking to friends is usually easier than talking to parents. I'm here to talk whenever you want to. "
