Help for my 11 year old bi-polar son

My son is 11 and he is a very sweet hearted boy. He suffers from bi-polar and is on aderall as well as abilify. He is not a mean or violent kid another before meds he would hit walls or try to hit himself. He is in counseling and group counseling but I still feel like he could be progressing more. I have always been a very supportive mom doing anything I can to make him feel normal as well as loved. I never put him down but I am sure it happens at school. He is in a special school with other special kids but some of those kids are very mean.

My issues are that his self esteem is sooo low. He tells me all the time no one likes him. Girls would never like him. He says he is stupid (even though he is a straight A student. He is emotional and cries a lot when he is hurting and I have always been ok with that. No matter what I say or do it won't change his mind and as he gets older it seems to be getting worse. He is depressed a lot and my biggest fear is will do something to harm himself that he as he gets older. Anyone have advice on what to do here? I feel like I am at the end of my rope. I love my son so very much and will do anything to see him a happy boy. My other 2 kids are so different.

Oh and on top of everything else we found out today that he needs to see a penis specialist because he penis is the size of a 2 year olds so the doctor think he may have something medical going on with that. So now I'm like great add small penis complex to a boy with all these issue and I feel we don't have a chance in hell in correcting this.

Any ideas at all would be great. Thanks you all.

" Hi
For starters I want to say hang in there Mom. I have been there and still am. It sounds like you are getting him on the right track with meds and counseling. A few things... Are you happy with your doctors. My daughter has been suffering with depression and very low self esteem for 5 years maybe longer but that is when we started with therapy and meds. We have changed doctors several times. We are finally seeing some results. Progress does seem slow and it is but sometimes it takes a wile. Also, this may seem kind of out there but have you ever had your son checked for allergies? I have found out that if you have food or environmental allergies go unchecked it can cause depression, anxiety, and lots of other symptoms. We just found out my daughter has lots of allergies and now that we are taking the allergy shots I have seen a huge improvement with her mood, depression, anxiety and all her joint pain we have been dealing with. I never thought it could be connected. Just a thought. Sorry about his physical problem. I hope that can get resolved. Hugs to you. "
