Just started my 11 year old majorly depressed child on fish oil supplements. These vitamins are notoriously known to help depression and bipolar disoder. However, they are not to be taken in place of medication.

Look for supplements that have a high EPA factor. For a child, 1000 mg. daily of EPA is recommened. However, be careful. These vitamins can produce mania in bipolar individuals.Even if your child is " only " depressed, still be careful. There is a chance that child could have a higher than average tendency to become bipolar later on-making them prone to experience a manic episode. These vitamins take about a month to work and may cause gastrointestional upset at first. It may also counteract chlosteral lowering medication. ( It's oil-what would you expect )?

I just started taking them so I cannot say firsthand if they work on my daughter and I. But I am hopeful.

" Our psychologist suggested Omega Brite for my son. He said if there are results, he usually sees them in 2 weeks. We did not notice significant results. "
