I was wondering if there are people with an older child 16 and up who they have dealt with depression or bi-polar. it is so hard sometimes to deal with there teen moods and then the other moods i could use some friends with this problem. My daughter will be 18 soon but in some ways she is not an adult yet.

" My oldest is 12, but suffers from bouts of depression and has OCD, as do I. I was very, very late maturing. I guess when your mind is preoccupied every waking moment with obsessions or with overwhelming emotions, it's hard to do the work of growing up. "

" I have a daughter who is 16 with depression / social anxiety & OCD. Life is exausting sometimes. We go up and down all the time. It's hard to tell the different between normal teen behavior and the illnesses. I can relate. I'm here it you need someone to talk to about it. "

" My 14 yo son has depression. He has done cognitive and talk therapy with a psychologist for a year, but still suffers. We also tried Omega Brite supplements w/o noticeable improvement. We recently met with a psychiatrist and will soon try welbutrin which is a dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. I am hopeful yet nervous about this treatment. We start on Monday. "

" I am also sixteen years of age, and honestly, patience makes a world of difference. The only person who can help your daughter is herself. She has to have the will power to equalize her mood swings or to find solace for her depression. "
