This was the book that turned me on to the world of CBT. My boyfriend gave it to me and suggested I do the exercise called the TEA form in it everyday. He said he heard about it at a support group he was going to and that it could teach me how to control my anxiety and help me eliminate the thinking errors I was making that caused my anxiety, health anxiety and panic attacks. In a matter of months I was feeling better and several months later I was able to wean off my meds and have not looked back. What was really cool about this book was that it was written by a guy (Sam Obitz) who struggled with anxiety and depression for most of his life before finding the help he longed for with CBT. It's also a short book so it is not too daunting and very encouraging in its tone.

We used this book in my CBT group and the TEA forms are a staple in my daily routine now. The book is short and inspirational and I would also recommend it to anyone who tends to get overwhelmed because this is a simple book to get through. One caveat is that CBT requires you to work hard on yourself to get better, it's not magic.

Hey Lizthinks, I hope you are doing your TEA forms and having success with them. They are awkward to do initially but once you get the hang of them they are great for managing your anxiety!

Hey jack I just saw your reply to me on that other thread and asked you which one of the counter exercises from the book helped you the most? Thanks and I hope you are doing great!

Hi Ronsgirl,
I have not logged in, in awhile and that's why I never replied. I just posted a long-winded answer on the anxiety board where you asked me the same question. Let me know if you have any others and I'll try and login here more often.

Jack if you are still around did you ever use the counter exercise in this book. I pretty much just focused on countering my thoughts in the TEA forms and never really tried the counter exercises. I'm doing well but just feel like I want to try something new too. thanks.

Yes I am still here occasionally. I did use the counter exercise a lot early on to help catch my negative thoughts. I have not used it in awhile though. I know the other exercise about counting all the things you do always gives you a lift too so you focus on what you have done as opposed to dwelling on the things you need to do. Hope you are well?
