Just joined this group and was wondering if many here have tried St John's Wort as an initial treatment plan. I am retired and suffer from a feeling of low worth, depression and mood swings.

" I am also bipolar, so I have not tried St. Johns Wort. But I am on SamE(400mg at night) and l-theanine supplements(200mg three times a day) in addition to Seroquel(an atypical antipsychotic-100mg in the am and pm) and Lexapro(20mg) for depression...all with my doctors approval. I love the l-theanine...it is very calming for me, so much I haven't had a Valium since starting it. And since adding the Same and l-theanine I also changed from a single omega to Omega 3-6-9 at night and I am sleeping like a champ. Good luck, I hope someone has some experience with St. Johns Wort. " Yes, I tried St John's Wort and liked it. It is for mild to moderate depression. Its not for moderate-severe depresion. Just not strong enough.

I found it to be quite good. It felt like it took the edge off of my depression. It was a nice, slightly mellow feeling. My Doctor was OK with me using it.

It stopped working when my symptoms deepened, probably because of a hidden thyroid problem (secondary depression).

Good luck to you..... "

" If you know you are bi-polar, you might want to check and see if its appropriate for that condition. Some meds and natural anti-D are
contra-indicated. Again, good luck. "

" I have used it, and it seems to work for me just as well as anything else. Still sometimes I just can't get over the sadness no matter what I do. "

" I had to stop the St John's Wort because it was reacting with some of the amino acids I was taking for old age erection problems and drove up my blood pressue. The last few weeks I have been taking 1000mg of Taurine 3 times a day which has helped a lot with my mood and daily veiw of life "

" It makes me violently ill. They are severe flu like symptoms that even after one does it took me a week to recover. I thought maybe I was ill and so I tried it again 6 months later, the same reaction. I asked my doctor and he said I am allergic. "
