MEEBO MESSAGE BAR FIX FOR FIREFOX:

I am running firefox on linux with the adblock plus addon. If you use firefox and are not familiar with adblock, you should check it out. It's a really great plugin.

Ok, since my windows will not install on my computer (i thought windows was supposed to be easy) I can't test it on windows but I see no reason why it shouldn't work. If you try it on windows, drop me a line and let me know how it worked out. Feel free to drop me a line if you need some help. You are also welcome to cross post this to whatever groups you think need it.

First you must install the adblock plus addon. It can be found here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/f...

Second you must add a filter to filter out the stuff coming from meebo. After installing adblock and restarting firefox you will see a little stop sign in your toolbar and a little drop down arrow.

Click on the drop down menu and then on "preferences".

At the lower right of the preferences window click on "add filter"

In the text box that pops up at the top of the list enter
" |http://*meebo* "
without the quotes of course. The asteriks are wild cards, this string will block any http address containing the word meebo. I should also note that this will block the bar on all sites you visit unless you toggle adblock off.

Hit enter, click OK and then refresh. Waaaahlaaaah, no more meebo bar.

Hope it works for you and if you must thank me you can do so by sending me copious amounts of marijuana. :P

" I am seriously considering downloading the free adblock for windows7, but I have windows 8.

the meebo ads are the problem. I switched my security setting to high and stopping the meebo ads stopped the problems I wa having.

right now I switched it back to med high to see if the problems recur. "

" one prob i had switching to the high security setting was it disabled the java script so my google home page wouldnt work right and some features here also stopped working like add a new topic, edit profile status, insert pix into journal entry etc.

had to switch to lower security level to do those things then reswitch. I do miss the old chat as i never had such probs with it as i have been having since meebo and its ads came along. :( "

" I didn't even know there was a windows 8 yet, I'm stuck under a linux rock lol. The adblock I'm talking about is a firefox addon, I believe it's a different program then what you are describing. "

" yes, it is different than fire foxes. but same folks have it, along with other download versions of adblock.

sad we habve to download special software just to be able to enjoy ds when we didn't need it before meebo camealong.

personally i see meebo as evil, but i have had probs with paranoia. LOL "

" so far i am back on med high and haven't been hungapped yet (knock on wood0.

maybe the techies fixed the bug.

but i also noticed not as many flashy ads in the right margin tonight.

i have the meebo bar back but switched to offline, each time i press enter i wonder if the machine will choke on meebo again. LOL "

" Yea I'm not fond of these IM bars, it seems a lot of sites are adopting them. They should give you the option to turn it off since not everybody has unlimited bandwidth and fast computers that can handle the extra load. It also seems a little redundant because nearly everyone has an IM program installed already that runs faster and more stable.

I myself call it the stalker plugin lol. "

" I so want to kill meebo....

I wish ds didn't add meebo.... I feel they sold us out so they could get more advertising dollars. We end up being tormented by a program that makes it hard to use the site.

Yea, me want to kill meebo. My homicidal tendencies are showing up... "
