are you sure that the cat did not get in your face. they love to be close. especially if they think you dont feel well. WHY DO YOU THINK YOU DID THIS?

The cat's fine, it's my sanity I'm worried about.
He usually sleeps on the bed with me by my knees, never up at my face and when I woke up unable to breathe I was holding him tight across my face.... Maybe I'm more insane than I thought... Excuse me....GHACK!!!!!!!!! just coughed up a furball

I wouldn't try to examine the cause too deeply. Appears to me the cat fell asleep on your head, you couldn't breathe, and began, quite normally, to remove the obstruction at the moment you woke up.
No sinister plot to induce death by household pet.
