this weekend has been an umm intersting experience.
the CL's that we have do a fantstic job, however we can not expect them to be on 24/7, we all know that we need more of them, but how bout some moderators as well.....not sure how it would work.....say 3 or 4 from all the different times zones so that the board is covered. when a new person joins and tried to put up a post, it should first go to a moderator, that way it can be removed if it is a direct attack on anyone. the moderators would control that side of it....after the person has been here for say 2 weeks after thier initial post then they get off probation... any thoughts on this? was thinking if there is enough support, writing a formal email to DS new owners asking them to take this possibility into consideration. I never thought of the difference between a vent and an attack...if it is someone who is venting in general, they dont tend to point fingers or name anyone.....just emotions in general....that would not be classed at trolling would it?

I doubt it would Kitt. Hopefully the moderator is kicked back and understands that at times..we curse.lol This is a good idea and it seems that you have put alot of thought into it. See..there you go again..thinking of others.

Yeah, I'm prone to venting on occasion, but have never considered anything I've said an "attack". Although, when I name names in posts it's because I'm trying to convey a thought to someone in particular. But, I also usually start out the sentence with something to the effect of "forgive me if this seems rude, but".
I think we DO need more CLs. Especially in the Depression forum. Seems that we have more abuse here than anywhere else (that I've seen).

I think venting is appropriate because it deals with our disease.. Anyone who has been here for a year or so and follows the threads would know the difference..
My hats off to the CLs we have but we definetly could use more..

Good ideas here! Yes, I think we need more CLs!!!!
WanderingVet started a group for newbies, and I think that would be a great place for every new user to start for the first week or so. A place to learn how to use the system, and a chance for some long term users to offer suggestions. Sadly the only way I can think of to really get rid of trolls is to require some form of member payment; none of us really wants that.

I know this goes against what has been said in other replies, but my experience in other similar environments is that it would be very labor intensive.
Maybe not here on DS, .. but I personally would expect it to be.
