I am on Effexor currently but have been on wellbutrin in the past. I gained weight with both. I think that just may be a side effect no matter what. Have been on several kinds over the years and they all did that. Wellbutrin was helpful in quiting smoking though, if you need that. I just quit about 5 months ago and the thing that finally got me to quit was Chantix. Sorry got off post there for a moment.

I have heard that about smoking, that is something I never started. Congradulations on quiting. That will make you healthier. If I may ask how much weight have you put on? I had the extra weight and really want to get it off!!!!!!!! I have read some forums that well... has helped to drop the weight. You are right it is different for all of us.

I was on Effexor and lost my appetite, but not much weight... Wellbutrin helped as far as not putting on weight, but was totally ineffective for my depression. I've had a terrible time with my weight and meds, but Effexor was actually the only one that treated my depression without causing crazy weight gain. Sorry I can't be more helpful!

I think I have put on about 30 pounds. I have just started on a diet. It is just watching what I eat, find something enjoyable to do for exercise (for me will be walking for an hour), and eating less than what I usually put on my plate. I also have started eating more fruit and veggies between meals. I feel that I am still far better being on the med and dealing with the effects than changing meds. The meds always take so long to work and if it doesn't work then you have to try another and then another. I finally realize that if you find something that works stay with it and deal with the side effects.

I'm on both effexor and wellbutrin. Neither caused me to gain weight. I'm thinking of going of of wellbutrin, as it's doing nothing for my depression, just another pill.
Good luck and God bless
