I found out today that after countless blood tests recently.. I am to have more because my glucose levels are off the scale and my doctor says I am most probably diabetic..
my cholesterol level is 10 for which I've been given a months supply of 'statins' I have to have another set of tests in a month before he will confirm anything.. I am not overweight and eat healthy food.. I never eat fried food or red meat or takeaways.. he didn't say if he thinks I am type 1 or 2 and I was too shocked to ask him.. I have high blood pressure and take beta blockers for that.. do I need to be worried? Posted on 11/19/08, 04:11 pm |

I feel tired too, this can be diabetes related and you may be stressing too much. If you have diabetes type 2 then you just need to take pills, type 1 usually you have to take insulin. You don't need to be scared, this is a problem a lot of people are dealing with. You just have to keep aware of the level your blood sugar is at. If you take your meds regularly and watch your food content then you will be fine. I had congested heart failure 2 yrs ago and I'm still here.

If your blood sugar is way up then they may give you insulin injections until it is at an acceptable level. You need more info from your doctor, they don't seem to be very good at volunteering info so you need to ask questions. They should prescribe a blood sugar meter so you can check your blood sugar level.

One more interesting thing -- it's common to find type II diabetes in the same families with depression and with alcoholism. The theory is that some families have inherited damage to a chromosome; depending on exactly where the chromosome damage is in each family member, they may have one, two, or all three of the illnesses. All three run in my family. Btw, everyone who gets diagnosed with diabetes starts out scared, but as others have told you, you can learn to live with it. Good luck!

I have type two diabetes. I stay tired all the time. My vision has gotten bad. When my sugar is high, I can't think straight and get so sleepy. I usually get up and walk outside the building. I monitor my sugar also. I take a big horse tablet. The name is hard to spell. My doctor does a blood test that can tell how your sugar is running over a three month period. Mine averaged 154. I don't watch my diet like I should. I crave anything sweet and rice and potatoes.
I think some of my medicine caused me to have diabetes. It does not run in my family. Take care of yourself. You will be fine. Peggy

I have been successful in eliminating cookies and candies pretty much from my diet but slipped a little around Halloween - too much candy around. I drink Glucerna nutrition drink in the morning, sometimes I drink Boost Glucose Control. I originally bought them for my mom and now I drink them. I don't know if they help that much. Boost has fiber and helps to prevent constipation.
