" That's kind of hard to answer. I've been going to a therapist for two and a half years. I suppose initially my goal was to want to be here. For me there are so many situations that make counseling important. It's hard to say that I have made steady progress toward the goal of being able to handle life as it comes. There's a lot of two steps forward one step back. The one thing that counseling has given me is a voice and confidence to use it.
I don't know if I really answered your question, but I hope it helps. "

" sounds like your considering the field of psy.therapist.I think your questions kind of broad because we all have different personalitys and problums but i guess thats what your interested in, a over all view of what depresses people .for me its my health problums and loss of my chosen field of enployment because of them.lonelyness.finacial struggles. oh and heres a interesting insight, depressed people are not stupid espesily bipolars we might not have book smarts ,but we are very sensitive to our therepists every eye movement or flinch of there facial features.we see it we dont miss a thing.most of us can tell waht our therepists are thinking ,not because were mind readers but were people readers ,its all in the mannerisums (i dont think its spelled like that) any way good luck and God bless you on your path "

" I'm just wondering what direction I should be aiming for in therapy or should I just take it one session at a time? "

" Honesty is the key to therapy. Be so honest it hurts. I work on my past issues and what brought me to bipolar in my life. That is where I decided to start and end for right now. My present can wait. I need to deal with the person I used to be and the bp I became. I cant give you a time frame right now. I was with a really bad doc for years and now I have a new one who is very good. "

" Hi, agree with Pixie. Honesty is best. I try to do a little preparation because the 45 minutes go so fast! But the key for me was finding the right one. Good luck to you. "

" First thing for me is finding a therapist I connect with. I've had several throughout the years. Some I've connected with, others who have made me feel worse.

Be honest with your therapist, because it's really being open and honest with yourself.

Just by talking, we've uncovered issues that I never even realized effected me.

Good luck. "
