scared about my future

I'm 24 living at home with my mom working a fast food job. I worry that I will be unsuccessful in life and will be seen as a failure. I have expectations for me that I wanna meet.
I went to college at 18 and failed out. I was more worried about hanging out with my roomates and making friends. I ended up working full time and went to a community college. Unfortuanely I lost my job and had to drop out of school so I could find a job. It took me two years to find the job that I have now. I plan on going back to community college in January. I am wanting to get a major in business management. I don't really have a social life either. Alot of my friends have gotten married or started careers or moved away. When I look at where they are in their life, I feel like I'm a failure. I'm not trying to compare myself to them but it would be nice to start my life. Anyway, my goals in life are to graduate college, start my career, find a girl to fall in love with and have a nice life. I know I'm only 24 and I'm still young but I do worry that none of this will happen Posted on 08/03/12, 11:27 am |

You can do all the things you dream of. Maybe you can take 1 college course at a time. As long as you're working toward your goals no matter how small each step is, you are one step closer to reaching them.

Please don't worry you have loads of time!Every one of us comes into our careers our marriages or major relationships in our own good time. Also take into consideration that you are dealing with an incredibly bad economic situation(most people I talk with say they ave NEVER seen it so bad!)Alot of people are evn moving back home because they can't afford houses or apartments.Perhaps you can find a local organization that does activities within your range of interests? Also volunteering one day a week is a great way to give to your community and meet great people.Just reach out and establish your roots then you will grow from there. You don't have to put a time limit on your acheivements, the fact that you have goals is awesome enough, alot of people don't.You are on a good track just keep chugging!!!!

Dogged determination, and never giving up.
You seem fairly focused on what you want to do...there will be setbacks, and I see there have been already. I do feel for you having to be a young adult in this world and this economy. It is rough out there, being human is hard, but you can do it. peace~

Hi ted87, I'm in the same boat when it comes to worrying. Especially about the future...
Even when all goes well/I got what I wanted, the thought is always there- what if I lose it? For me achieving golas isn't an answer, as I know that I'll find something to fret about anyway, even if I do. Recently I came across a quote of some wise man/ yogin, who when asked about his recipe for happiness, said: " I don't mind what happens". The longer I think about it, the more genius it seems to me. I'm trying to apply it daily- as an exercise- and find it eye opening. Try your best and don't worry about the rest, I guess. It will all work out, one way or the other. All the best.

You can do all you dream of and more, don't doubt it. You are young and can do this. In a couple years you'll be getting your degree - that is quite an accomplishment. Hang in there - Big Hugs

Good for you! You have a set itinerary...now go get it!!
First and fore most prioritize and focus on each each goal. The most important is an education then career...at this time romance is not really that important (it just shows up when it does we have no control on cupid)

I felt very much the same as you do when I was your age. One big difference is that I was married, and had two children. I was scared to death that I would never be able to support them. I did.
My son had several set-backs while trying to get through college, including having to sit it out for two years after high school. I was not able to help him financially, and it hurt like hell. Here's the good news... I found out yesterday that he was awarded/earned his PhD in Political Science from the University of Texas, Austin. He is a perfect example of how we can reach our goals. Change doesn't happen overnight, but if you point yourself in the right direction, you can make it. Good luck my young friend...
