I have been told by social workers doctors and psychologists that if I need help to ask for it and iv been told about support groups and help lines ect. And I keep getting told go to them if your finding it hard yourself.

Now today I got told by my social worker that her and my doc are concerned that I am asking for so much help !!!!!!!!!!!!!

What the hell !!!!!!!!!

One minute they tell me to get help now there saying I'm asking for to much help. what am I supposed to do ?

I have been waiting since January to get regular psychologist to talk to and so I went to support groups while I wait.

just makes me so mad

" I would be angry too. Did you tell your social worker exactly what you told us? That makes absolutely no sense. It's like the ole bait and switch... Make up your minds people!! No wonder people stay depressed. They tell us to get help and then when we ask for it, we are turned away. I just don't understand. It makes me crazy! "

" I do not understand this.

Wish I had an answer.

I think you should get all the help you need. "

" Yea I told her that she told me to ask and I told her I have been struggling so I ask for help as I didn't want to shut off and get worse like I used to.
She just said I need to get a psychologist soon. But I phone them every week and just get told I'm on the list and I will be contacted when there is space.
It feels like they just want me to sit quietly and not ask for anything as they hope I will just disappear and they won't have to deal with it.
And iv heard there are lots of people round here that are getting told the same sort of thing "

" Stuee, not sure where u are but yes this is wrong. I myself am a Mental Health Social Worker and would never turn away a person in crisis or tell them they are asking for too much help.

Keep asking. Keep speaking up. Never be quiet about what you need. I'm sure ther is a shortage of psych docs like there is here but us workers do our best (here) to accomodate clients and help with their issues.

Again I don't know how it is there but can you try another service provider? "

" I'm in Scotland UK and as far as I'm awear there is no other service provider unless I went private and I can't afford that.
It's stupid a couple of years ago I asked for help and within 3 weeks I was seeing a psych every week and it helped. That was over in west Scotland now I am in east Scotland its completely different. I have said that I want to go back over to west scotland. But I'm unable to as all my phisiyotheropy and my surgeons are based over here and the social worker says I'm better off here. Not sure how as they just leave me and don't tell me anything unless I ask and even then I'm not always told things. "

" Are you sure that your social worker said that you are getting TOO much help and they don't want to give you more, or the concern is that because of the amount of help you are seeking, there should be a concern.

Two very different things. You may not feel like calling the SW to ask for clarification, but if you do you'll fell better in the long run.

Sending you some strength. "

" Stuee,
I have no idea how it works there in Scotland. So sorry I really hope that it gets better for you and the situation you are in.

Please keep asking for help. "

" I had a very good social worker that I loved and had a repor with. Then they changed things up and assigned me to a f..king nut. She told me she would not help me as long as I lived with my ex. She also wanted me to go live in a home??? She didn't have to worry, I wouldn't ask that (let's just say a different religion and leave it at that) help me if she wanted to. She was one of those head in the clouds, everything is beautiful kind of people. Spewing all the cliches but otherwise useless.

I quit going to appointments. I told my doctor too and the desk just what I thought of her. I wanted a new social worker or my old one back. I would cal for an appointment with the doctor, they would say I had to go through her, then I would tell them, I have been trying to for months without any response from her. Finally, they gave me an appointment without having to see her.

Did she tell you the doctor said that or did you hear the doctor say it? I would talk to my doctor and ask him what is going on. "

" Yea she defiantly said she thinks I'm getting too much help as it was written in a report I got at the meeting with her. And to be honest I don't think my doc has said anything like that to her I have appointments with my doc every 2 weeks now and she is real good and helpful but I am going to ask her next week when I see her.

And zazas I'm sorry to hear that you have had trouble to. I know what you mean about social workers with there head in the clouds mine is just like that. And I know she don't like me you can see it in her face and the way she talks to me. I am sure its because I am English and not Scottish ( althow I am half Scottish ) I have an English accent and I do find I get a lot of racism from the Scottish for being English. I will say not from everyone maybe just a 3rd of the Scottish I meet are racist to the.English the rest are great. "
