freaking out

I am freaking out. I actually got the nerve to call my therapist's office and request a change in therapists. The secretary said that I had to notify my therapist and she'd have to be the one to put in the change request. I approved the call transfer to her voice mail and said the exact same thing the secretary told me to say. That I didn't feel like we were clicking. To be honest, she seems to always be on vacation and I rarely get time to talk when I need to. I'm tired of waiting for 6 or 7 weeks sometimes to be able to get a session in with her. Am I wrong for that? So, why am I freaking out so bad? I said what I needed to on the voice mail but yet I'm scared of her reaction. Again, why am I freaking out so bad? It's not like she can physically hurt me but yet I'm afraid to hurt her feelings. *sigh*

You are NOT wrong for feeling that way! A good match of patient and therapist is necessary, and if the match is not good then it needs to change.
If the therapist is not able to see that, or to accept that, then they are the one who is at fault! Gentle hugs, and best wishes for a better therapist!

I think we place a great deal of importance on our therapist so when we have to leave them behind for whatever reasons....it remains hard deal with after we do so :-). They are thetapist. They go through a lot of.patients. I do not believe you will have hurt her feelings as badly as you feel:-).

I don't think it's anything you should worry about. I would imagine that an experienced therapist has had several patients change therapists; it shouldn't be anything new to her.
Whenever my mom and I would change doctors, we never really confronted the doctors. We just secretly made an appointment with another doctor behind their backs and started seeing the other doctor instead. If you ever change doctors or therapists again, is it possible that you can do that instead? I hope everything works out for you. Hugs

You have nothing to worry about, you told the truth and she, of all people, should realize that the appointments will be fruitless if you are not clicking with her. That is so important. I had a psyc tell me that I had the eyes of a witch, whatever the heck that meant, but I never went back. Don't be afraid, if she is at all professional, she is going to do whatever is best for YOU, not her ego.

Don't worry! You have to do what's best for you. A therapist should know that better than anyone. It's ok to look elsewhere. I'm sure it wont hurt her feelings, and if it does it would be because she could have done better, which is not your fault at all. 6-7 weeks is a long time to wait for appointments. I see my therapist most fortnights and often so much has happened in that amount of time that I don't know where to start.
Don't feel guilty for taking control of your health! It's a an incredibly positive step.

I'm in the same boat. Except I can't tell my therapist. So I don't see anybody because I've decided going to her was pretty much a waste of time. Kudos for doing what you did! I can only imagine how it feels for you right now but at least you're going to get another chance to talk to someone who might be able to help!

You have to take care of you. If she can't do the job you need to find someone else.

Thanks for all your positive comments. I received a call from my therapist yesterday and she requested I see her in her office. Again I was freaking out but I went. She asked why I wanted to change therapists and I was very open with her. She said she understood. She said she's only in the office part time, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She said she didn't think I would need the extra time such as weekly appointments because I was in DBT once a week. I told her that I had to back out of DBT until after mid July when I return from Ohio. She apologized for not knowing. She said that if I didn't get along with my new therapist and I wanted to return to her that it would be ok. I thought that was nice of her to say. We'll see what the future holds.

It's good you spoke with your therapist and explained your situation. It sounds like she really cares about your situation.
Good luck with the next therapist. Hugs!

That took a lot of courage. Well done for facing the issue and dealing with it. I may have chickened out!
