Finding peace

Went to the park today again. Made my way through the woods where I found the house that once stood. I made a point to walk between the holly bushes that once marked its front door and continued back onto the path.

I found a deer path and followed that through the woods for a while till I made it back to the path that followed a long the creek, and eventually to the river to get to my new favorite spot where I can boat watch and just chill out, almost completely alone. You can sit there for what seems like an hour on this large piece of comfortable drift wood, before seeing another soul.

I left here after awhile and headed back down the park path through the woods. Eventually I came across somebody, another man walking alone taking in him self, and the amazing peacefulness left abandoned and unexplored by just about everybody but the park rangers.

A little further I came across a deer, a doe, in the middle of the path. I stopped to look, and then kept walking my nice slow pace I had been walking. The doe sauntered off the path as I approached.

When I got to the place the deer stood, I stopped and looked over to see if the doe was near. Then I noticed, you know those white wishies that blow of dandelions, falling all around me. I looked up and it was raining them everywhere from the trees, lit up by the sun coming through a clearing in the trees. It was almost magical.

Then I heard something, a deer twenty feet away that left this spot, looking back at me as if to say, "hey, that's my spot."

People, you are letting the world go by! Get out there. Beauty and peace is just around the corner. Explore, you will find it everywhere, in many forms you wouldn't expect.

" I completely understand you. I wish I could live near the place which gives me peace, but I can't. I crave the peace you describe, and I know that if I pulled myself together I could experience it more. Maybe a regular, small "dose" of it would be enough to help. "

" Those moments in nature alone are so very valuable. There are places here in Florida where I would love to just walk and get lost in the wilderness. There is something to be said for our native brothers and sisters that would reach an old age and know their time here was short. They would choose to go off into the wilderness alone and pass in solitude to merge with ancestral spirits.
An elderly gentleman I hunted with for a day told me how it was that we happened to be together. The previous season he had lost a life long friend. This other man had hunted with him for many years. He had told this elderly man that he wanted to just fall asleep some day in a really nice spot. Well last season when his friend didn't come back from the woods he knew that something had happened. The next day they searched for and found that man sitting against a tree. He was gone but he looked like he was simply asleep. The look on his face was so peaceful. The old hunter told me he was happy for his friend.
To know this peace while still living is truly a gift. I hope to know it when my time is short. "

" What a wonderful post!! The whole time I was reading it I was picturing every spot you were in and what you were seeing. Yes, it was magical and I thank you for that. Today was not possible to stop and smell the roses kind of day, it's going to reach 107 by 5:00. That is the hottest time of day here. But I was fortunate to follow and smell and see the leaves surrounding you and the deers looking at you. My Anny dog has eyes like a deer.
Thank you again for the wonderful journey!!! "

" awesome visual Doug.

I live in a place much like you described. It has helped me so very much. I have a bench in my woods by a very large old tree and I sit and meditate...the energy of nature is very healing. "

" Sat in my garden, surrounded by trees, weeds, honeysuckle and singing birds today. One does a wolf-whistle, one imitates my house phone and another sounds like my guinea pigs. I realised I have what you describe on a small scale just outside my back door. Thank you again for the reminder. "
