Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I lightly self harm most day's if I did'nt Id spiral into a pit of anxiety and depression. To me the self harm is a lesser evil x
Otherwise, like Di, a light cut now and then keeps me going. I don't know about other people but it gives me a euphoric sense of calm, not unlike the calm felt when one finally gets to have that cigarette they've been craving for hours.

To me, light SH is no big deal, just like one glass of wine after a hard day. I wonder if it is because the scars from SH (especially if you are a cutter or burner) are easily visible on the outside whereas liver scarring cannot be seen?
I also used to SH...haven't for a long time though
xo
Misnomer anyway. Safety behaviours are anything but safe.
I wonder if I'll ever stop. It seems unlikely as I don't feel there's anything wrong with it but then maybe that's because I'm feeling the urges more right now. Maybe in a few months I'll think it IS really bad. Hmmm, who knows? It'll be interesting to note any changes.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out.
{{{{{{{{{Big hugs}}}}}}}} for you.
Yeah it will. I do like to view my issues objectively so this will be a good case study for me (my brain is far too analytical lol).
Thanks for the hugs hun and massive ones back at you xx
I SH'd probably another 10 + times over 2 years then it just faded. Half of those times was super impulsive and the others were to alleviate emotional pain.
I'm just an odd duck lol
But since you're looking for different views on it, I also don't feel the need nearly as often anymore, whereas once I was cutting several times a day, often more, all over my body.
I think the urges stopped because I first started as a way to stop my panic attacks. When that stopped working, I was addicted to it, but the urges did begin to lessen almost immediately. Not completely, obviously, since I still do it occasionally, but WAY less.
But the addiction was still there, IS still there. I don't like it, but I won't pretend I hate it or think it's a horrible thing. I don't cut deeply or often, and it's a release...as you put it, like having a glass of wine.
Occasionally I will do it while in a rage at myself, which is something I wish I COULD stop, but it's still never gotten to the point where I was in danger of doing actual permanent damage.
Eh...sorry, it's too early for me and I'm babbling LOL
